so Ive spoken to some about this through PMs but I wanted to open it up to the forum at large. When the list first dropped the general consensus from senior forum guys was that the whole list wont get made. The estimates were 2000, 1800, 1600. first year they promoted slightly more than 400, which is right around historical averages, and on pace for 1600. But now the next class supposedly is going to be March mentoring and then April / May bmoc. Thats 2 classes in 5 months. I know they r big classes but your looking at 4 classes for the year maybe 5 if they run a mentoring and a bmoc at the same time. I believe last year there was 6-7 classes. is It possible that everyone got this wrong? That this doesnt even hit 1500?

Why are you doing this to yourself? Just sit back and relax because its out of our hands. Im in 1800s and am thinking of taking next exam anyway but this time actually studying and not winging it. It is what it is.

Seriously. Everyone needs to just take it down a notch and let this run its course. Like I said thousands of time before. The original 2017 sgt exam list was 1400. Well more than enough for normal standards. The city paid a buttload of money to get it "scaled" or "curved" to 2600 for reasons I'm not going to talk about. The LT and CPTs exams all had huge passing grades as well. But they did not scale them because the numbers were already great. The sgt list did not have to be as big as it was. It was manufactured on purpose. Don't worry about the rate right now people are being promoted. This is the same job that overpromoted hundreds of cops to sgt just to take a LT test. The same can happen as this list approaches the expiration date. Or the expiration date can be extended to reach more. It's not as far out of the ordinary as you think. So once again, be easy and just enjoy the ride. This list is making it into the 2000s.

I cant dispute what you said. I know for a fact the unscaled list should be somewhere around 1400. This list didnt need to be scaled or curved. All these things are true. How this list makes it to 2,000 is beyond me though

False. 1year anniversary, January of this year they had promoted approx 402, ran through 411 names ( promotions + resignations + already sgts ) and were at list # 436.5 because of all the guys who didnt have enough time on. Keep in mind this was also with the LTs list coming out the gate promoting a years worth of LTs in 6 months. they Havent promoted since.

yes The mentoring went in before the anniversary but they got promoted after it. If this list was coming up on expiration im certain that class would come from the new list not ours. Please dont confuse me with narco26. Im not here to say negative stuff for the fun of it. Im watching whats happening and just trying to figure out if I got sold a bill of goods or is there something I dont know. If Im wrong ( and I wanna be wrong ) Ill be the first one to apologize

So much for 75 people. Finest only shows 50, list went up to 564 as per Mike Yanosik. This sucks.
List is definitely being cut.

That's just for people doing mentoring, it's not the actual promotion list. Not everyone being promoted has to go to the mentoring program.
