I'm actually being told definitely. I'm hearing there's supposedly a BMOC class scheduled for April 9th with a figure of around 80 people. I'm hearing this from multiple people. Some from 1PP and from uniform promotions. Obviously this is also just another rumor but have any of you guys heard anything similar?

If someone could shed light on this this that would be great. Because I'm hearing a lot of positive things about this list a pretty much almost everyone on this list is gonna get made. These are not my words this is what I'm being told. My partner and I both passed. I'm due to get promoted very soon and my partner is in the 600s. And he has been hassled by uniform promotions, Employee Resource Section, and what ever that unit is that manages your education track record about going to school to earn enough credits to be a sgt. He figured that he had time because he was in the 600s, he thought he had at least till next your but they told him he doesn't have that much time and if he wants to get promoted as scheduled he needs to handle this asap. In other words, I'm hearing that their looking to promote a lot this year and a lot off of this list. If anyone out there has heard similar, please shed some light on this..

Correct me if I am wrong.. you need 60 to get on the job and then academy gives you about 26, you just have to convert them into regular credit.Few online school will let you do that. that should be enough to get promoted.

Someone I know got emailed by the education tracking unit to make sure he had enough credits for promotion. He was confused because he knew he had more than enough credits for promotion, so I told him to log in to the education tracking system in the department intranet and check what the department has on file for him in regards to education. Low and behold as per the job he didn't have enough credits on file. He was able to reach out to his schools and have them send transcripts to update the job and rectify the situation. I myself was shocked that the department reached out to him in the first place as I thought the same, that they would just skip over. I still wouldn't count on the job reaching out. Everyone should still check for themselves what is on file

Unless he's looking to further his education or came on with military, he doesn't have to enroll anywhere for a semester if he didn't want to. Through Excelsior college he can do credit banking and it costs around $350. Roughly everyone on the job has earned enough credits through the department to be able to make LT. Depending on the hire date, he can get 30+ credits for the police academy and then 3 credits for completing BMOC/Sgts Leadership course when the time comes for LT.

Your right but that's easier said then done. We get credits from the academy but it's very hard getting a school to except them. And yes you can go to john jay and all those other schools that specialize in policing but if you having already been enrolled there. It's an even harder battle. But back to my main point . I'm hearing April 9th for the next BMOC. Have any of you sensible ladies and/or gentleman heard the same or anything at all??.

It's not easier said than done, it's actually extremely easy. I just told you a school that's takes them, Excelsior College. You create a student account at Excelsior, pay the education tracking unit $3 and they send the academy credits to them, Excelsior puts them on an official transcript for roughly around $350 and then sends the transcript back to the education tracking unit and you're done, cant get any easier. Theres no where else that you will get 30+ credits for under $400. I wish you much luck if you feel this is too difficult of a process.

Consolidated my credits through excelsior back in October. When December came around the job still didnt receive it/ post it on the education tracking website... finally after personally going down with the transcript it was done within minutes. The job wont chase you down for it so its up to your partner to stay on top of it.

Okay so you have to start by enrolling in there school. Call the number on their website and ask to speak to the one trans people. Once registered go to the old police academy on 20th street and go to the educational tracking unit and ask them to send a transcript to excelsior for you. I would suggest bringing any certificates you got from the job for training ie auto crime hidta homicide. Once you do that give excelsior your credit card and they will mail a sealed transcript back to the job. Then check the educational tracking unit application on the intranet. Now if time is an issue you can pay extra to expedite it or even drive to Albany. The job used to require a $3 money order that you can buy at the 711 on the corner of 20th and 3rd but I heard you dont need that anymore. I did this around a year ago so thing may have changed. I would call the educational tracking unit and be guided by them. In order to go to bmoc you need it to say at least 64 credits on the educational tracking unit application.

Roughly 30... but the average cost I obtained from excelsior is roughly 16,000$ give or take a few thousand. I have 114 credits on my excelsior transcript. They offer different programs but require a minimum of credits taken with them for a degree. Further they offer exams to test out of class requirements but theres fees associated.

Sorry about the tier 3 ... dont worry 25 years aint long ... sorry I came on in 2004 ....few years left and trolling from the Lieutenant forum
Good for you. Everyone has their own path in life.
Maybe your missing the point, this was never about me and college credits. I clearly wrote my PARTNER who is ALREADY enrolled and taking care of it. But I thank you anyway for your advice on handling the already handled situation. Now can we get back to finding out if this April 9th thing is actually something legit?
How many credits does Excelsior College accepts from the academy? And how would I go about it after words if I want to finish my bachelors degree?

What about John Jay?
Excelsior costs about $300 to transfer you acadmey credits into college credits it costs no where near $16000. Its like $300 and will take about 2 weeks unless you expedite it.
The question was how much to complete the degree
New to the forum? Your going to be the guy who constantly raises his hand to *sighs from your Bmoc classmates.
