I hear March is being thrown around. Can anyone confirm the potential list will be established?

I would say thats about right kool-aid. Last I heard there were about 29 Lt vacancies. And there are still about 20 or so guys on the 2015 Lt that are still waiting to get made. So I dont see a dire need for the list to come out. Remember there were a ton of lt vacancies at the height of the 2015 lt exam debacle and things didnt implode. Anyone with patrol time knows sgts aka frontline supervisors are the ones who really keep the job from falling apart. And we have a ton of sgts at the moment

No one knows. It's civil service so you know they're gonna drag their feet. Just enjoy passing at this point and let it play out.

No way this list is established later than March. 29 Vacancies with one class left in almost 6 months come March. When this list is established expect the first 70-100 names to be promoted by the time summer is over.
The list will be established in Feb with the first class in March.

Tell that to the sgts waiting 8 months on an exhausted list.

That's true, but there's no shortage or need for Sergeants right now. The 2013 Sgts list took 8 months to be established, so what's happening now isn't out of the ordinary.

I dont know the answer but the question we should be asking is how long it usually takes for a new list to be established after the old one has been exhausted.

Most of the time new lists are established while old ones are still active.
Whats going on with with the sgt and lt list now is not the norm.

True. It took the department a while to realize that it makes no sense for the four year life of a new list to begin while there is an active list.
Now more people can get promoted from each list.

I would hope the list comes out earlier than as the last time I checked we were at 44 Lt vacancies but with dcas you never know. 10plus months for a sgt list to come out is ridiculious.

I'm not sure why the Sgt's list is held up. I'm thinking it has to do with the pay scale issue people are talking about (PO to Sgt) and perhaps because the PC promoted everyone on the 2013 in order to take the Lt's exam creating a lack of demand for Sgts at this time. I'm hoping what's going on with the Sgt's exam is not the case with our exam...

Maybe your right kool-aid..except for lack of demand. Last time i check there were 70 sgt vacancies...so the openings are there.

yeah I don't get intel on the vacancies. You would know better on that I was just judging from what I see within my command, we had a wave of new Sgt's from the bottom of the 2013 exam

Drpapi's info is useless. I dont know about you guys but with all this nonsense going on with dcas and the sgt list...i wouldnt expect a Lt list to come out until aug or sept. By that time there will probably be 100 or so Lt vacancies.

Or you can lower your taxable income by increasing your defer comp contribution (37k total for 2018) therefore keeping you in the same tax bracket.

For those of us who aren't top pay Sgts, the promotion will be close to a 25k raise and that's only taking into account the base pay.

Anyone on the job can do this. A PO making $100k a year can bring down their taxable income by $37k to $63k before any child tax credits + the new standard deduction. Probably paying nearly no federal taxes at that point.. This isn't just a Lt rank thing, everyone can benefit from this.

You can max both 457 and 401 (18k each) for a total of 36k. Whatever amount you contribute lowers your taxable income by that much. So if you made 100k and contribute the max 36k you'll only be taxed at 64k of your salary.
