If this is accurate, is it right to assume the 290 person difference is made up of people who are taking the make up exam and/or who just didn't take the exam?

Not sure but that was the response that I received from my FOIL request

Why do you think they pushed to finish the 2013 sgt list .. they had a small sign up rate. I love when people say a 1600 person list size.. what are you smoking? The 2011 sgt test was straight forward and "a joke" to a lot of people and 1600 + passed with about a 9000-10000 who took it. That's approx a 16% passing rate.. just saying.

Can you FOIL the amount of passers? Assuming they ran the scantrons already. If they know how many took it they must know how many passed.

Is a foil request just an email to dcas? If so we should all send them asap. Dcas already has the numbers, guarantee it. The job and the test writers are very concerned with the number of passers.

My buddy wrote this last sergeant exam and knew within three days the number. He also knew that there were gonna be doubles and throw outs. Someone out there knows there number of passers right now.

I've actually been curious about that too. How do you submit a foil request?
DETSGT said

You can foil pretty much anything, including # of passers. All it takes is a simple email. Include name, exam #, and that you what to know the # of passers. The more emails they receive the sooner they will release the info. Send emails to adeutsch@dcas.nyc.gov
Good luck

Probably 80% of cops dont even study. They just pay $100 for a day off.
Sgts study and know how to study compared to cops.
Nice. I just submitted one via the website. If we tag team them maybe we'll hear something soon, haha.

I've gotten back plenty of info about the 2017 sgts exam from FOILs, everything from passing rates, makeup exam dates and number of make up testers, number of protests etc. Reply is typically two-three business days.

1200 something. You needed a 79 to get promoted guaranteed.

It was 1,295. But keep in mind it was a different time (economically, meaning less turnover and promotions). Not to mention the job was much bigger with lots more sergeants, and it was like the entire rank took that test. The 2006 exam is not a fair comparison. Basically, this is the fairest LT exam in the last decade so there isn't any relevant comparison. As this exact moment, there are ~4700 sergeants. Barely half sat for the exam. Statistically, going by historical promotion numbers, a pass rate of 35% (unheard of and highly unlikely since the passing score of 70 was implemented) would still be sufficient for every single person to get made in 4 years. Sure, stranger things have happened, but you can't go by word of mouth on an exam where no one knows their official score and then make assumptions of a 50%+ pass rate. I think, more than anything else, that this will be in line with the 2011 sergeant's exam (the one I took and the closest comparison, in my opinion) with somewhere around a 17%-20% pass rate.

Well that would put this at 50% passing that's the only reason I ask. I personally witnessed 2 people in my class fill it out and leave within 25 mins. I had people who claimed it was easy and didn't study at all. I even thought I crushed it and got such easy questions wrong and I slowly came back to earth hoping for a passing grade. I think it was extremely straight forward but tricky.

I'll e-mail. Asking them "how many passed" probably gives them an out because a list hasn't been established. I'll see if it gets any different response if I ask how many raw scantron scores are 70 and over..
