I didn't get to finish the exam and got a 62. I know the lieutenant exam had a lot thrown out but that test was BS. Is it realistic to think there's a chance I can get those 8? Kinda bummed. Congrats to all that passed.

Did you protest any questions? Don't assume they will be thrown out because this test, the promotional school teachers were suddenly in eligible to take the test and they are usually the people who protest questions for us. Without them, we have no shot at questions getting tossed unless a lot of people send in their protested questions. We have 30 days from this session to protest and I suggest everyone submits something, even if you did not attend the session.

I think that's a great idea. I took note of which ones I wanted to double check and I'm gonna use my patrol guide for the proof, i don't care if I lose a page of that lol. How did you do?

When sending in your protested questions, just quote the pg section wherever you think the correct or similar answer is, whether it be a line number or additional data statement or a note.

I already mentally prepared myself for failing because I didn't even be to finish it. But I wasn't expecting to get a 62 so it gave me a little hope. Minute hope. Very small lol

So does anyone know exactly how the questions that are thrown out affect your score? I have heard every poss. explanition from everyone I ask. If I got a 65 and they throw out 10 questions do I get a 75? How many questions on the average are thrown out? How many do you think will be thrown out on this one? Do people think there were a lot of questions with double answers or that were just plain wrong?

I took the last test. When they "throw out" questions they either make them a double answer or make all answers correct (throw out). If it's a double answer and you didn't pick one if the two answers you still get it wrong. If you got it right to begin with you don't pick up any points. Last test there were 2 double answers and one throw out if I remember correctly.

On the 2011 Lt's test, some guy scored a 60 mad he ended picking up 17 points on throw outs. He ended up with a score of 77 and got promoted before those who actually passed in the low 70's. I guess it's all luck.

They also had the instructors from the prep classes on their side. Unfortunately we don't and not many people protested questions it seems. 3/4 of the people attending the protest only went to see their score.

Carman you don't need to send in the patrol guide pages. Just quote it from the guide with the section and line number that proves there were more than one correct answer. I also protested the duplicate jury duty question #36 & 121. the question itself was good but the fact that they duplicated it is unfair if someone got them both wrong. I've never seen a test where the same exact question was asked twice. Hopefully I can get credit for one of them. Anyone who felt it was unfair should protest those two jury duty questions.

The Jury Duty question was valid. Saying they chose the same question twice is not grounds for a protest at all. They will not uphold those types of protests. They have the right to put any question they want on the exam. They could have asked it 5 times if they wanted. Protests are directed at faulty questions or equal or better choices for answers or no answer due to the question being faulty.

if they throw out a question, you will get a point ONLY if you got the question wrong. In order for that to happen, there has to be a good enough protest to show that either a) the question in itself was invalid, or that b) none of the answers given could possibly be right. in that case, the final answer key will show a/b/c/d as the new answer.
if theres a possibily that there can be a double or tripple answer, the new key will show a/b/c , for example.
you wont just get a free point in any case, you must have gotten the question wrong.
also, senority, medals, run or jst does not count towards your score unless you have a 70 or above.

Theres not time frame on the list. Needs of the department... keep in mind the last list still has atleast 600 people. The 2011 list was established and they began to promote right away, I dont know how common that is. There wasnt many people left to be promoted when the 2011 test rolled around. They promoted for about another 6 months off the 2009 test, then the 2011 list established and promoted off.

The list can come out while the 2011 is still in "use", but the clock won't start on the 2013 until the first promotion. So you can know where you stand on the list if they release it, but it could be a while before the first person gets made. The 2009 list was out for quite some time if I remember correctly, waiting for the 2008 list to finish.

i say screw your lawsuit. I failed the 11' test by one point and didnt cry and stomp my feet. Instead, i studied HARDER this time around. God Bless All who Passed and to those that didnt but will in the future.

I'm in the same boat as you blue. Failed by 1 point on '11 test and got an 81 on this one. If you seriously dedicated the time to study and still failed then you are either just not that bright or have no idea how to properly study.

There has been an exam that was thrown out in the NYPD a long time ago. But I don't think this exam falls in that category.

I've seen one truly protestable question thus far. There may be others but I saw one that was a good candidate. 2 throw outs isn't unrealistic. They don't just roll over and appease people though. The protest needs to articulate why the question is faulty or why there are equal or better answers or no answers. It amazes me when I see people write "everyone protest it and they'll throw it out!" Or "I protested it cause it was unfair!" Crap like that makes me pull my hair out.

Anyways, I do agree with Blue.. .... instead of talking about lawsuits, I think ppl should just take the "L" and try again next time. . ...

How was it unfair? You either studied and knew the material, or you didn't. I failed the 2011 test so you know what I did this time around? Wait for it.....STUDIED HARDER. They didn't fail because the test was unfair they failed because they didn't know the material. Stop making excuses and accept responsibility. Too many babies here.
