Did you guys use it for your sgt test prep? I ordered the 2013 edition to start my very early review for the alleged LT test in April/May 2014.
Would you read the guide over reading the "real" patrol guide?
Thanks in advance for any opinions

I like the KSA Procedural Guide for codes and acronyms to remember lists, but often these promotional exams are tricky because they play with wording a lot, so reading the real Patrol Guide is still really important if you want to do well on the test.
I did use the KSA book for my Sgt's test and never forgot some of the lists, codes, acronyms, but I just focused on reading the Patrol Guide for the Lt test. I talk to some people that passed the last Sgt's test and they admit that they didn't even read the real Patrol Guide!?!?!?! I dunno how they passed, but what works for one person might not work for another and some exams could be more difficult than others too.

PatrolGuide,
I must confess...I did not read the patrol guide and passed. However I looked over the key's pamphlets again as well as doing key, ksa, rising star and academy questions.

I would read the patrol guide. The Lieutenant exam is hands-down the most competitive exam on this job! I would not leave anything to chance. You can study right/hard the first time or study half-assed twice (once now and another in 4 years) for the same promotion.
As far as acronyms go, you get more out of it if it's personalized rather than using someone else's. It's easy to do: just go to scrabblecheat or some other word maker/finder website, put in the letters, and choose the word/s that will help you identify that word/s with the procedure.
