I am trying to track down NYPD UMOS who have had prior non NYS sworn law enforcement time. I have 3 + years of service with a police department in NJ, and am looking to try to see if we can push something through the State that would allow us to buy back time, similar to the military. I know there are some of us on the job who came from another LE agency (i.e. Amtrak PD, a few NJ departments, California Departments, etc), and if I can get a head count as to how many people would be interested, I would like to pursue this.
Since we would be paying the full rate to the PPF (no City contribution of 5%) plus interest (8.25%), we would essentially be saving the City money (the 5% and the 8.25% interest), so I don't see why in these financial times, it would be a bad move for the City.
