That timeline makes sense. Lets all just hope they don't have a repeat of this past year and wait until Sept to start promoting sgts.

let's wait two more weeks and see if there will be next class in January. this would suck big time, if they stop promotions now. i keep my ears wide open for any info.

That's good and bad news at the same time. Hope I make it in time to be eligible for the LT. exam. If they offer another SGT. exam in june 2012, that means this list can be dragged out for awhile. That isn't so good. We'll see. Thanks for the info.

I spoke briefly with Little Bobbito at a retirement party the other day. He is sticking to his word that as of now they are tentatively having only one sgt bmoc this year. He is saying probably in june or july. I am close to being made so it sux to hear that. I really want to make it for the next lieutenant exam. But its not looking pretty. City is short on cops big time. Can't be making sgts just because there is a list. I feel bad for the guys that are like 500 and below. Gonna be a long wait and hopefully it doesn't die. Strong possibility. God speed.

Those dates are just about right from what I'm hearing plus I'm hearing a April class for recruits and a July class for recruits of about 1200 each class

The recruit class is sched. in april but only 800 followed by another 800 in july for a grand total of 1600 for the year of 2011...but with anything else is all depends on Albany (money for the city) and what the stock market/economy does, it could go up or down i'm sure. As far as the new exams go at least you know that you won't die on this list..yes the lt. exam would pass us by if there was no promotions but we can take comfort in at least being on the list as many people are now kicking themselves for NOT passing this test.

I am below 500 and I hope I do not die on the list!

Giving lt test in Oct has nothing to do with not putting in bmoc classes. Lt list expires in 2012 isn't it?

This info is from someone (PD) who submits requests to DCAS for exams.

Sgt exam in June 2012 is not good at all. That means they are going to promote really slow. And it sucks big time because most on this list (including me) will miss the LT's exam. If the Sgt's exam was at least jan of 2012 I would feel somewhat better. I wouldnt' normally believe that they would only put in 1 Bmoc all year, but if these dates are true there is a chance that they will promote very very few this year. Peace.

Just because the next sgt exam is scheduled for june 2012 doesn't mean the list will move slow, that's a year a half away but you never know with this job because in the next three years you have about 6000 that are eligiblr to retire plus a recruit class in april and july so I see the 2012 sgt test as a good thing what's bad is some will miss the oct lueitentant exam that's bad and besides you can't control it so sit back relax and just wait because we are all in the same boat. Also there is a very few in the upper brass that knows what's going on because it probably changes every day

We should all be greatful that we are at least on the list and will all be promoted at some point..there are a lot of people who failed this test and are kicking themselves for it...I do expect that things will move a lot faster then people think..call it optimistic but commands all over the place are asking for bosses so I can't really see this list getting stuck and people getting cut off..but to those that are posting some great info including list updates thank you!

why should we be grateful? we worked hard to pass. tough $hit on the people that didn't make it.

I barely remember studying for the exam.

They are hardly gonna promote this year. Put it in the books. Keep dreaming if u think other wise. We might get up to #250 by 2012 I don't know why so many people are on here don't just accept that it is what it is. YOU ARE NOT GONNA GET MADE ANYTIME SOON. Especially if u are in the 300's or higher. Ok go ahead and rip me apart now because u are blind to the truth.

Im going to call you out on that one. I do agree that there might be a slight slow down or even a halt for a couple of months, but to only promote 130 for 13 moths is near impossible. My prediction is that they stop after one more class to fill it with the five year guys. After that, an april class of 75ish and another 3 classes before 2012 which will bring us to about 450 by the end of the year. This is conservatively, without taking into account attrition, promotions to lieutenants, movement, 3/4..

The city has promoted an average of 300-350 sgts every year, going back as far as I can track. They promoted close to 400 this past year; they promoted straight through the recession. There's no reason to think that 2011 will be any different.

i dont think zoo-masters statements are accurate, according to the budget (http://council.nyc.gov/html/budget/PDFs/police_exec_rpt_fy_2011.pdf) their gonna have a april and july academy classes if that happens they have to promote.
