how many are left on the current list. I know they are up to 329 (or so I previously read) but is there a count on how many were skipped as a result of not having 5 years on the job?

they were up to 329, then they went back to 1 for the people skipped, and now back to 296.

339-296=43 so is that a good guess at how many people are left to be promoted? Does anyone have a guess as to how many 2009 5 year cops are on the list?

Here is a fairly close count on how many are left on the list: 38 eligible right now (unknown how many of those may be jammed up or whatever else) 22 eligible 1/20/2009 5 names on list don't come up (undercovers maybe) 2 have resigned (1 suffolk, 1 nassau) 1 eligible 1/30/2009 This is my best estimate and I would imagine pretty close to accurate. I also heard sept for the next class. Good luck all and stay safe.

I am one of the eligibles left on list 6513 and i would just like to emphasize to those that passed exam 7508 to be patient because those of us left waited longer for exam 5500 to expire so we may be promoted. Your promotion will come, We all need the "pay raise" and better quality of life. Everyone that is left on 6513 that wants to be promoted WILL be promoted!!!!!!!!! The future 5 YEAR WONDERS must watch what happens with 6513 because if they fail to promote the 5 YEAR WONDERS on 6513 you will have no chance whatsoever. Be careful what you wish for because you might just get it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Civil Service Law mandates that once a list is established it must remain active for at least 1 year but can not exceed 4 years. Basically the dept can not seek the establishment of another list until 1 year has elapsed on the previous list.
According to the DCAS automated telephone system, list 6513 was promulgated December 26, 2007. Therefore the list must remain in effect at least until December 26, 2008.

This is straight from the DCAS website:
4.6.6. Duration of Eligible Lists.
(a) The duration of either an open competitive or promotion eligible list shall be not less than one nor more than four years from the date of establishment.
(b) Unless otherwise provided, an eligible list which has been in existence for one year or more shall terminate upon the establishment of an appropriate subsequent like list for the same title.
(c) Where the duration of an eligible list is fixed in the announcement of examination at less than four years, the commissioner of citywide administrative services may by resolution prior to the expiration date of such list extend the duration of such list up to the maximum limitation of four years, provided that such announcement of examination states that such extension may be made.
(d) The commissioner of citywide administrative services may also by resolution prior to the expiration date of an eligible list extend the duration of such list as provided for in section fifty-six of the civil service law, as amended by section one of chapter four hundred and forty-three of the laws of nineteen hundred and seventy-six.
LOOK IT UP IN THE DCAS CIVIL SERVICE WEBSITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4.7.2. Existing Eligible Lists.
(a) When an eligible list has been in existence for less than one year and contains the names of less than three eligibles willing to accept appointment, and a new list for the same position or group of positions is established, the names of the eligibles remaining on the old list shall have preference in certification over the new list until such old list is one year old. During such period such names shall be certified along with enough names from the new list to provide a sufficient number of eligibles from which selection may be made.

Once they put in the next class and get to list number 339 again, there will be 0 eligibles remaining on the list. I understand that there are 23 people who will have time in Jan 09, but time in rank is a condition of eiligibility, as are discipline issues and passing the exam. This is how the city is going to be able to make a new list. I by all means am not saying they will not hold on to those people until they get 5 years then promote them, I am just explaining how they will be able to come out with a new list. Even if the city held this list for 1 year, that would make it until Dec 26, 2008, still not long enough for those 23 or so people who need it to be Jan 2009. The city has teams of lawyers and legal assistants and paralegals that sit around and read all of these laws and nonsense then report back to the city to let them know what they can and cannot do. So I would be willing to say what ever the city decides will be the legal way of doing it. Take care, stay safe.

True, and there is no telling what the city will do. But from the second they put in the next BMOC and reach list number 339 there will be 0 eligibles allowing the city to have another list. If they decide to wait until the end of Dec for the next BMOC then those people will be fine. Keep in mind if they hold the last class until the end of Dec for those people, which I doubt they are going to do, then they will not get promoted until late Jan 09 and that would mean the city would only promote the current 70ish SGT's at the end of July and then no one else for 6 months. It isn't practical when the city is currently down SGT's and approx 30 retire a month. That would be about another 180 the city would be down if they waited on top of all the SGT's that can walk at any second but stay. In my opinion the new list will be out fairly soon and they will hold the others until they get the time in Jan. Take care and stay safe.
38 eligible right now (unknown how many of those may be jammed up or whatever else)
22 eligible 1/20/2009
5 names on list don't come up (undercovers maybe)
2 have resigned (1 suffolk, 1 nassau)
1 eligible 1/30/2009
This is my best estimate and I would imagine pretty close to accurate. I also heard sept for the next class. Good luck all and stay safe.
