SBA has a meeting with the city 11/06 and my SBA rep just informed me the SBA has back to back delegate meetings the 21st and 22nd. One would have to assume that means they plan on settling and giving the info to the delegates to vote on? Providing a little hopium because I cant see the city continuing to dish out top pay to new sgts. I also assume thats the reason the last BMOC class was so small. But we all know what happens when you assume. Thoughts?

Just have to hope they are not stalling for December and dont fix the disparity because if those are the dates its looking like that's what they are gonna do. Just Remember this December all SGT are due 10% which would put all SGT between Steps 1-4 at 105,600 Base which is currently a little more than what top pay cops are making i think give or take a few hundred. So dont be shocked if the Union says Problem Solved

Haha thats probably exactly what theyre doing. The problem comes the following august when cops go to 109. I dont think the city would want to keep putting more cops to top pay until ANOTHER contract is settled. That would be fiscally irresponsible for them because it would take years. When all is said and done I think sgt steps will start at that 109 and change. Whatever is a little higher than what the cops will make next august before their contract is up

I think you guys put too much thought into what the city cares and doesn't care about. They knew from the start what is going on. They don't suddenly care and are dumping the class numbers because of it. Cops have been going to Step 5 since June/July and top pay for 2 months now. All while knowing this is going to cause grievances and lawsuits all over the place.

Right but usually when the city knows theyre close to settling, they put in smaller classes and then a larger one after the contract is settled, exactly like the last one that screwed over the newer sgts with the extra step to top pay. in Terms of the pay, contracts clearly take years to figure out. No way would the city be promoting all cops after next august to top pay until a new contract is settled. Which is why Im assuming that 109 and change figure (at least) to be the next step 1.

The new contract % 3 out of the 5 years add up to 10% after this December so they might just be stalling for that time, so that all the people stuck at steps one through four make over 105 from the contract

Sure December 2022 - 3.25% December 2023 - 3.25% December 2024 - 3.5% December 2025 - 3.5% December 2026 - 4%
This December if we settle all SGT get a 10% bump
So if ur at 96,000 you get bumped to 105,000

When the December 2025 Raise kicks which is 3.5% whoever is at 105,600 will get bumped to 109,200 if my math is correct so SBA can say well everyone is up to date now and at 109,000. I hope Im wrong but seeing how gutless the SBA is I think this mite be how they settle us

Yeah but that would still mean the cops getting promoted to new sgts from 8/24 until that next percentage raise in 12/25 would have to be put to top pay which I dont see them allowing. Giving up 20k per sgt for a year and 4 months adds up very quickly. Only reason I think the steps will start there. Not to do us any favors lol.
Tomorrow the SBA meets with the city. Please do no expect anything. Vinny V and the rest of the board are keeping the grandiose plan under wraps. The numbers are set, so dont expect anything to change with actual salary (which is far more important because that impacts OT rate). I could suspect a few extra hundred on uniform or a slight variation of the nco pay to provide it to members with less than 5 years in rank. I spoke with two different characters on the board last week. They have no idea whats going on, I assume its like speaking with sleepy joe.

Maybe the SBA can settle the contract with 9 years to top pay. Just like they messed up the last contract by waiting years to settle the EXACT SAME contract as the LBA settled for. This union is pretty damn corrupt. No faith in the SBA. So wonderful to pay over $1,200 in cash a year just for some idiot delegate to tell me to just sign the green paper. Mullins was deplorable. Somehow all of the other unions settled their contracts except SBA. They must know something really special that the city is going to give the union. I think the SBA is waiting for the lieutenant list to drop first, that way a bunch of their members will put the contract behind them since the members are excited about being on a list and will skip fighting the union. The union will not fight for the pay disparity. Union is all talk. Just like every other union in this decrepit agency. They want to fight for something, fight for hazard pay. A cop that works in an A house makes at least 10% more than a cop in 1pp or admin. Thatll solve people wanting to leave crap holes and being abused.

SBA loves raffles. Buy a $50 game of chance to win a prize. Sounds like my union dues of $50 twice a month is raffle. Except, there is no prize and there is no contract. Anyone else bored of the circus these Union guys put on with emails about an sba necklace, or a calendar competition, or raffles. Question, with all of the raffle money they collecting, where can I get a breakdown of how much they collected and where it went? I think Mullins is driving a new Mercedes these days

If there arent 10 delegates that challenge this entire board shame on you. Its literally a free spot on the board. You need 1 year as a delegate and you must have attended the meetings. Please, dont be useless and challenge them. Its embarrassing at this point.
I know most of the sergeants will continue to not care, but this is a very poor showing from the union. In case we forgot, they werent elected. Most people have no idea what the board members look like and just from speaking to some of these guys they cant possibly know whats going on. Im sure 20 years ago they were sharp, but now sheesh.
Dea, Lba and Cea didnt seem to have any issues. Please do not think this is business as usual. This isnt the mafia, if you tell these mooks how you feel they cant withhold Sba cards. Whats the worst that happens, you dont get first dibs on the Sba pendent ?

We know everyone wants a new contract, but ask DEA members the if thye are happy with contract that gives them only 3K over a PO. Many rushed their decision due to migrant issues and citys financial situation. Sometimes, you have to wait it out and let it play out. PBA waited for 7 years and got a good contract. The city would love to have a broken membership forced to make decisions that might not benefit us. Let it play out, and we need to get what we deserve and fix the pay disparity.

Honestly, this is the best situation the SBA could possibly be in (at our expense of course). Having the leverage of newly promoted sergeants going to top pay with each passing class puts the city in a compromising situation. It would be cheaper to fix the disparity than it would to continuously promote new sgts to top pay. Youre talking approx 100k per sgt theyre losing over the course of the 5 years it would take to reach top pay. Time is on our side. Lets hope they use the leverage properly
63_sniffer said
Nov 9, 2023
Sorry fellas, going to have to disagree on this point youre trying to make. Time is NOT on our side. Remember under debozo gave SBA. 11% contract offer years ago and we didnt take it, but everyone else did? So what happened 3 years later? Sba settled for the EXACT same contract everyone settled and have been working with the pay raise EXCEPT, top pay sergeant went from 5 years to 6 years. This was a major loss for rookie sergeants especially when all other unions did not raise the amount of steps it took to top pay. Thats a huge giveback. We cannot forget where we all came from and the hard work it took to get us here, so we cannot sell the unborn just for a stinky pay raise. Its about the health of the union and what its supposed to stand for, not working as a supervisor having responsibility for mostly idiotic cops who dont want to make a decision if their life depended on it and getting paid less than them.

Guys, the disparity is going to be fixed, and it will be only because the city fixed it. Stop feeding into the narrative that the union and Vince is giving to you. The city has no choice to correct the issue, since its costing them $98,000 per new Sergeant promoted. It will not be fixed because the union had anything to do with it.
If you keep feeding into that nonsense, the disparity will be fixed and the union and Vince is going to turn around and look at you to pat them in the back.
Vince and the Board want to distract you from the fact that we deserve to be paid retroactively for the disparity, which has never been mentioned by Vince. Meanwhile he sends the delegates back to command to tell us its a nonstarter.
Ultimately, you need to look at your delegate and get them on board, if not then start the process to replace them. We cant expect the board to do anything we want if all the delegates dont speak up at meetings. Hard to go against the grain when youre at Antuns getting stuffed with food and a day off patrol.
Vince and the board got 4 years in 2022, we all have 3 years to get a proper nominee and board in place. Start with your delegates.
