Ok so they announce an exam in 8 months. Cool. We are now in lets say JUNE of 2021. Now the city gives people what.. about 6-8 months of study time. People now take the exam in January-March of 2022. It then takes another 6 months to dispute answers, and finalize the scores. So now we are in June-Sept 2022 and then maybe just maybe put in a BMOC in Sept/Oct 2022. A solid 9/10 months of no BMOC. That is just absurd.
If the city cared to give another exam, they would have announced it by now or will announce it no later than January. Although if that was the case, we would have heard chatter by now.
So all in all. I BELIEVE there is a good chance of a 1yr extension. Could I be wrong, absolute. But the stars are aligning to an extension. All we got is 50/50.

As great as that sounds, the financial burden right now is a significant one and to bring in such an easy stream of revenue by giving a Sgt and LT test instead of extending the list clearly makes more sense than the alternative. I see no benefit to extending the list sadly.

This notion that the city makes money on these tests doesnt make sense to me.
Even if 20,000 cops pay $110 to take an exam.
Thats $2.2 million. The city budget is $88 BILLION! For 1 year. The test revenue would be .000025 of the budget. Thats like someone making $100k finding $2.50. Its nice. But doesnt make a difference.
Thats not considering: union proctors, Im sure the school union has some requirement on staff presence when their buildings are used, printing the test, and a million incidentals.

The price they charge for the test probably covers all the prep work and materials needed to have a test to begin with.
If anything, the current financial situation probably lends itself to extending the list. No one in city hall wants to hear about police promotional exams right now, for both the concerns about the virus and because **** us. You guys are delusional if you think people like Jumanee Williams are sitting there going "damn we got all this **** going on right now, but what about a new sergeant test?". They are looking to cut back as much as possible, plus they lazy, so why would they want to start planning a new test? Might as well promote off the old list for as long as they can.

The lack of a test right now is due to lack of places to administer an exam with proper COVID protocols.

I think this is the most logical. I do not think the test will be extended. I do think they arent even considering a test because they arent even sure how they would administer it in COVID times.

I agree. The City can't even figure out how to open the public school system correctly. With everything going on, another test or even promotions is not a priority.

This is not true. I received this through a WhatsApp message a few minutes ago. I promptly reached out to my old admin LT who is now at OMAP. His reply was quick and simple. B.S! He said OMAP is in the dark like we are. This all comes die to budget and approval from city council. This message is just like the one we saw not long ago about the chief of department resigning and the commissioner too and the major shakeup of the bureau chiefs. All we are doing here is keeping the C.O OF THE RUMOR DESK very entertained.

It's going in on the last week of October. The size and logistics were still being finalized thanks to lots of moving pieces in the department. Whether if it's 1 big class or 2 smaller classes three or more months apart is what's still being worked out. Promotions should also be continuing somewhere between January and March. Leaning more toward January. If I get anything more concrete I'll let you guys know. But thankfully I no longer have to be cautiously optimistic because the class is a go!

Posting for you guys that are waiting, this is the email address you can ask about your extension. Make sure you write which list number and exam in the email. All eligible Lists expiring this year and next year have been extended by a year. I would assume promotional lists will follow suit. It does not hurt for anyone to ask. Good Luck!
