How does yet another SBA board member go down for fraud?
Is there a carbon monoxide leak in that office that makes everyone who sits there a criminal adjacent perp?
These mooks just cant help themselves from wetting the beak.

In the beginning was the word, and the word was good. Then the dinosaurs came. Then Marty Daltons mom discovered her home brewed colt 45 recipe, but she overindulged and let out a mighty belch, and the dinosaurs were wiped out by a blast of her hot breath. Then Petey acquired a taste for dolphin meat, and all manner of horrors ensued.

We all got played. Absolute fools we are. They agreed to the contract while working with the city to scam us out of our raises for as long as possible. SBA is on board with it & dont give a fuck. We are in the most technological era of our lifetime & all of a sudden, with advanced AI out there, we can figure out how to process our fucking checks to reflect a pay raise in the system? SM MF D.

The raise doesnt go into effect until 8/1. Wont show until you get your 8/15 check.

What an absolute crock of shit. So the union basically lied and said we will be receiving retro on our new top pay once the raise is in effect, which is shortly after the contract is ratified. So the contract is overwhelmingly ratified in May, and wont be in effect until August? Which means you wont receive any retro for the top pay that youre not at until 8/1. What a joke.

I think you need to reread the email, everything happens 8/1/25. The only reason they mention the 8/15/25 check is so if you want to lower your deffered comp % back down.

When the board reads this in the morning, please consider some mayoral endorsements. Since were already almost out of contract, I dont think Mr. Mamdani will be willing to negotiate in good faith.

The SBA office will close at 1:00 pm on Thursday June 26, and will also be closed all day Friday, June 27, so we can complete the move back to our fully renovated headquarters at 35 Worth Street in Manhattan.
You will be able to contact the board and staff by phone and email during these two days.
Also, dont forget that the SBA Family Picnic is being held from 1 pm to 5 pm on Friday, June 27, at Nansen Park in Staten Island. We hope to see you there.

Anyone know how the new federal law on tax free overtime will affect the retro check?
WartimeConsigliere said
July 6th
It wont up front, check will be taxed to death. But when you do your taxes, youll be able to write off 12.5K worth of overtime if youre single, 25K if youre a joint filer. Lots of wrinkles here and there- phaseouts over certain income levels- but between the OT write off and the SALT cap being lifted to 40K, we should be doing better come tax season- some more than others.

yes, but does the fact that the ot was earned before the bill was signed into law be a loophole for the government?

Nothing else depends on when it was earned. It all depends on when it is paid in the tax world. Retro OT should probably be subject to the new OT tax deductions since it's being paid in 2025, just like it's subject to 2025 tax rates, etc.
No1isbetter said
July 6th
You guys nailed it. But remember, as single filer, deductions decrease after $150k up to $275k. Married filers $300k out to $550k. I believe this may benefit married filers a bit more unless youre married to another cop or FD or Sanitation. For every $1000 you make above $150k your deduction goes down $100. So for instance if you made $200k single filer, your new deduction is $7,500.
NauseousPBBN said
July 6th
Also its a deduction not a credit, so you don't pay the taxes owed on that 12,500. (2-3kish back in your pocket)
VetteCop said
July 8th
i read the number for a single filer is 160K and phases out at 200k (meaning no deductions if your total income is over 200K). Not entirely sure what the married numbers are.
Basically every sgt who is single will be phased out of the deduction due to the retro check. Congratulations! You got screwed again! lol

Thats not correct at all. I explained above that the deduction phases out $100 every $1000 you make up to $275k.

Just for a good laugh- the PBA is meeting with the city this month to discuss a contract. Sergeants have still not received a dime, we technically arent even in contract yet, and were almost already out of it. The SBA never fixed the compression issue, I hope everyone here realizes that.

Hey guys,
In light of everything in the news...the likely incoming regime, the scandal after scandal coming out everyday in the current regime, the ineptitudes of all of the unions, the backbreaking demands placed on the working men and women...I just wanted to take a minute to say something positive....
While our job has become a joke by any measureable standard...it wasn't always that way. Men and women like you all joined for mostly noble reasons and worked hard to protect an ungrateful city and provide for your families. Its easier said than done...but whatever your original goal was...don't loose sight of that. Stay on track towards whatever it is that you set out to do. Nothing lasts forever. That includes good times...and bad times. The entire job is about to be pushed over a cliff...and mayb it will be for the better on the other side.
Alot of really awful things about our job are finally being brought to the light. Perhaps actual criteria for discretionary promotions will be enacted to keep rogue executives from breaking the rules in the future. Noone knows what the future holds...but for those of you with children...it isnt so simple as cutting and running. We need all the good men and women we can get. We owe it to the next generation to leave them a better world than the one that was left to us.
I don't know any of you personally..but I hear alot of your gripes and I hate how many important conversations on this board descend into bickering and childish name calling. We are stronger together.
Lets all treat each other better. Sending you all well wishes and hoping you have a great rest of the summer. Don't let the job consume you. Your families are what truly matter. God bless, good luck, and stay safe!
