This contract will pass. Not a chance in hell it doesnt. Hell, the lousy deal the city offered us last year would have passed, majority of this union are at top pay and just want their retro no matter what.
I just went through it for three years out of contract. Up to my eyes in debt and uncompensated job responsibilities. Because of when I got promoted. Im not seeing a day extra of top pay, which is gonna end up being two years less than the six year wonder changing next to me in the locker room. Tens of thousands of dollars. Im gonna end up getting paid LESS than my previous rank over the past three years. Doesnt matter to me if its only 3K. Im going to have to stay past twenty to get my numbers right.
I had no illusions that this would be fixed. But I hate the fact that the union, the mayor, the PC and everyone else are celebrating as though it was.
Plenty of guys who would have been stuck in the steps are going to make out ok. And Im glad for them, I am. But what kind of a goddamn cuckold would I be if I voted yes to this deal that does nothing for me except get me and people like me the pattern raises- which have been zeroed out because of inflation- that every other union got? My vote wont matter and we aint getting a better deal, I know this. But Ill be damned if this contract is gonna pass unanimously.
Ill be a no vote. Same as I was in 2021. And the contract will pass. Just like it did then.

My thoughts exactly. The responses of the people not in our boat are pretty telling. There is zero brotherhood in this union and nobody cares that were getting fucked because its not them. Im happy all these rookie sergeants are going to top pay because I will always prefer for the money to be in a cops pocket than city coffers. I just wish the rest of them felt the same about us.

I will never support Vallelong nor ever vote for him. Great they got us a half year of top pay retro, there shouldve been atleast a full year. Im just curious to know why we wouldnt be able to win a class action?

Cite the civil service law that requires sgts to be paid more than cops? In fact look at the contract. You knew the steps involved with your contract, you walked across the stage agreeing to those terms. Now terms changed after you signe and agreed to the deal making your terms be a bad investment, simply put now new promotees were signing contracts a lot more lucrative then yours. Thats no one fault not even your own. You simply made an agreement at a time where you thought was the right call but ended up w the shittiest deal.
if you dont understand what Im getting at then you simply must look at this as buying a car. If another buyer 5 months later gets ur car for 20k less can you just return your car and say I want their deal? No bc contract law doesnt allow it. You guys have zero lawsuit but hey Im just a guy on the internet

No need to explain, man, you are correct on all points. Most of us have spent the better part of two decades in an environment where perps get five or six figure settlements after taking legitimate collars, crooks in 1pp make hundreds of thousands in unearned OT and get away with it, and now we are subject to a contract which enriches some while leaving others paid much less than they reasonably expected to be paid. It is a bitter pill to swallow- the union and its membership should not expect us to smile while we take it.

Somehow these clowns think it was an unfair assumption to believe that the union we were joining would legally fight for us to be paid more than if we had never been promoted in the first place. And the "bad investment" you're saying we agreed to is the same exact deal that Sergeants promoted 1.5 years after us agreed to, but this unions incompetence benefited them and hurt us.
At the end of the day, you and every other yes voting SBA member sold out your coworkers in 2021 and received absolutely nothing in return. And now you're selling out the same coworkers in 2025.

My posts arent meant to stir opinion one way or another. I post im just a guy on the internet in a manner that states my opinion is no more or less important than yours. The one thing I have going for me to help you is that Im not mixing emotion into the equation. When youve been screwed you get emotionally involved and that can lead to bad decisions. To me a bad decision is spending money on a lawsuit bc you cant separate emotion from facts w the law. I want every cop up to chief to succeeed on this job and gain whatever personal gain they seek from this job whether its money or actually changing something. In the end though you have to realize that a majority of this job is selfishness and what benefits them. But thats human nature in general. I wish you the best with whatever choice you make

I agree with you! The one star Chief that just got fired was just doing what anyone else would have done. He was signing off on OT slips as per the Chief of Department. Instead of firing Lt.Epps or Chief Diddy, the department uses him as the scapegoat and destroyed his reputation/career.

Truthseeker is actually not a seeker of Truth. The Truth is 1,200 Sgts, got shafted as the union did NOT look after their best interests. So the assumption that those 1,200 sgts should vote yes and move on for the greater good of the other sgts who it worked out well for, is the dumbest thing I ever read on this thread.
If it was those 1,200 sgts whom only benefited from this contract, there would be a different tune in here.
Vinny is buffoon and somehow found a way to be worse than Pat Lynch. If you are 1 of those 1,200, you know how you should vote, it will pass anyway.

Yea what Dept said is correct. I've already voted "no". When you look through the "documents" the SBA attached to the vote, you'll also notice it's just a summary typed up by the SBA and not a copy or even excerpt from the actual contract.
Even if I didn't already know I was getting fucked, how could I vote yes in good conscience when the SBA has never clarified what scale the 1200 will be paid at from day of promotion until December 2024? They only posted a pay scale for Sergeants promoted after December 2024, we're just assuming that we'll be paid at what the "new" step 1 was at the time (a difference of $982.55).
You guys are still crying? Vote and move on, we all know even if you vote no its going to pass.

I am one of those 1200 and I voted yes. I also would not shame anyone for how they voted. It is a personal choice.
For me I did the math and I think it is a fair contract. Would I have liked to see better retro numbers, yes of course. Do I think the SBA did a good job, no I feel they dragged their feet and this contract could have been accomplished last summer. However I am going to top pay and I am getting top pay way sooner than I should be. So although the retro is not great, I am getting way more money over the next few years that I was not getting before.
and in terms of truthseekers comment, his 635 posts on this board in my eyes has given him the right to give his opinion. He gave plenty of POs waiting to get made the inside intel. Something he did not have to do. Back when I was waiting to get promoted trolls started spreading false info for their personal entertainment truthseeker would come in and be a reliable source.

Im surprised the city even wanted to put anyone not at top pay retroactive to December. Thats 4 months of retro as if they were at top pay. The city never gives anything.
But with that being said everyone is entitled to vote yes or no. Its their opinion on if its fair or not and some people got burned so hard they refuse to vote yes.
FelonyOutstretched said

The city did not "give" anything. The city won the retro battle with the millions they saved by not paying 1.5 years of top pay retro to 1200 Sgts because our union is not good at bargaining.
Sergeants promoted after July 2023 were not only paid $22,000 more in real time than Sergeants promoted before them, they'll also receive more straight time retro than them for the same period. There's the savings.
I'm happy for all my coworkers that will finally make some/more money here, but don't think your union made a good deal. It took them 2 years of the city making interest on your money to settle the exact same deal all the other unions already settled. Two years of pretending they had never heard the words "12", "hours", or "tour" just to take a pilot program and identical raises anyway, lmao.

But with that being said everyone is entitled to vote yes or no. Its their opinion on if its fair or not and some people got burned so hard they refuse to vote yes.

We know you didn't create the problem by benefiting from it. You are part of the problem though, because you'll continue to vote "yes" on whatever smooth-brain contract these elderly SBA board clowns put in front of you for the rest of your career.
We already knew a high Sgt test score does not equate to intelligence. Who knew it didn't even equate to reading comprehension level.
Lmao
the job is alive baby 160!!
Expect to see it with the Holiday pay. City always wins.
Amazing
