Probably to keep them happy-ish/voting for Vin until the next go around when they fix compression for reals this time.
The real winners here are those promoted 23-24, who will be getting a shitload more retro/total compensation than those promoted late 2019-early 23.
Again, truly glad that those promoted 21-22 dont have to spend 5 years on the steps.

It is what it is at this point. I personally can no longer hold out and wait while still making 97k base. In a perfect world we would be retroed from the point that first bmoc went to top pay, but some of us are hurting bad at this point.

Theres a 20K gap between the steps and top pay effective summer 23. If youre in the steps from 20-22, your total compensation is still lower. Maybe more retro because you were in rank for twice as friggin long.
I dont even want to look at what the charts for PBA salaries are for these years. The SBA has not posted charts of the steps for anyone promoted before December 2024 and I dont expect that they will. It will paint an ugly picture.
I will be voting no, simply to protest that half of the 1200 people the Union is crowing about not leaving behind were in fact left behind. Were probably about 5 or 600, promoted between 2020 and 2021. Not enough to swing the vote- I dont expect the majority of this union to vote against their self-interest, and if this is the only deal that is a net help to those promoted around 2022 who would be stuck in the steps until 2027, so be it. I know this will pass, I hope it will pass- ASAP because, like many of us, Im broke after all this and need every penny I can get- but to say that this deal addresses the shitty situation we were/are in- no, I cant sign off on that.

My vote wont change in terms of his Presidency but my vote will be yes for this raise. Next time the SBA will do the smart thing and settle all together with PBA & LBA. So that the numbers reflect properly. Regardless what the difference is right now, you take the promotion to eventually make a top pay salary far above PBA. And if its not enough, that should motivate SGTs to study harder. At the end of the day, even as they enter step 4 today, its still significantly more than $97k. I dont feel its selling out future SGTs but nor will I feel bad for them while the thousand plus made out. Ive been made right. Im not going to cry over overtaxed retro, that extra $10k-$20k wasnt going to be worth the wait to pass up on this raise now.

When you compare it to how much money the city blows on other shit, its a drop in the bucket. Dont know where people are getting some of these numbers from, but top pay PO only made slightly more than entry level Sgts during these years. Here are the actual numbers: PO made $103876 from 8/22 to 8/23 while Sgts made $102,640 (Sgts getting paid in retro) PO made $107512 from 8/23 to 8/24 while Sgts made $106,449 (Sgts getting paid in retro) PO made $111812 from 8/24 on while Sgts get paid $110175 from 8/24 to 12/24 and then $134818 after 12/24(Sgts will get this money in retro). So basically Sgts got paid $3,000 less TOTAL over those 3 years and are now going to top pay sooner than they expected to. Seems like Sgts made out decently. The problem that some might have is that some Sgts made out better than other Sgts. Those Sgts that went straight to top pay, obviously made out the best, but it seems like those that are complaining are those Sgts that didnt win as much as others Sgts won.

If you're at top pay (promoted before/after the 1200), you're welcome. Your "no giveback" contract was paid for with cost savings from fucking the same 1200 Sergeants who were already getting fucked. At the end of the day, the SBA board secured 1.5 years of top pay retro for new Sergeants that they did not secure for Sergeants promoted earlier. Vinny couldn't even get it done, he needed Kaz, the PC, and the Mayor to step in and do it for him. I'll be voting no on this contract just like "senior" Sergeants should have voted no on the last one. Hopefully somebody runs against Vinny/Small, and my next SBA vote can be to boot them.

Its a complaint that cops got promoted to sergeant and went straight to top pay, while we all had years in rank and were stuck at 97k? Thats a complaint? Its a complaint that our union didnt back us and did nothing about it? Its a complaint that those cops made top pay sergeant money for how long and none of us are getting retro from that date? A lot of people getting hyped over something that could have, and should have, been brought to us years ago. Even you "senior sgt" fucks got screwed over, but you're still slurping it up like Vinny's good lap dogs. The raises were set in stone when the PBA settled theirs. 12-hr tours are still a pilot programs for all ranks, and honestly were never a real threat to these negotiations. I get 5 months of retro top pay, fucking aces bro. So let me ask you sloppy dumb fuck senior bosses: why should I be happy with this? And by this I mean, why should I be happy that my union sandbagged me for years just to present the same thing every other rank has? Why should I be happy when you fart inhalers voted for the contract before this which made it 5 steps to top pay with pattern raises? I am in a good gig now with a few years left, but man I'm going to take the next LT test just to say I retired in the LBA instead. This union is fucking awful, if you even want to call it a union, its just another city agency at this point.

The give back is the 1200 getting shiested out of their money. Not 5 min washup time that literally nobody uses. The contract will get ratified. I suspect a class action lawsuit will commence with the 1200. I don't know how that will go I know zero about contract law.
Regardless, the real problem is the 2021 contract that should've been voted down. They know what they're doing up top, though. They wait till the members are so beaten and battered that they have to vote yes just so they can pay their bills, even if it means giving up thousands of dollars. Happened in 2021, it'll happen again in 2025, and probably again when the next contract is finalized in 2030. The SBA has an awful track record with contract timing and compression compared to other unions.

Absolute clowns. Probably delegates.
Give back your retro thatll show them. How about every rookie sergeant gives the extra $20k in salary alone (plus OT, plus retro) they made to one of the 1200, we will see how that goes over and whos whining then.
You cant convince me that Vinny didnt lie to us about the city trying to sneak in the 12 hour tours last minute. Nothing about that story made sense and the city rightfully denied it. Vinny lied and pretended he negotiated us out of it to distract from fucking over half the union.

New SGTs now start at $119,617 that is $10k more than a Top Pay Cop, when cops were at $86,500 SGTs were at $97k so its the same difference, this doesnt hurt any unborn whatsoever. Additionally, these unborn get promoted to a fair salary with no additional give backs Unlike 1200 of us where we went in giving up an extra year to top pay. The 1200 now are rightfully at Top Pay, making the same as everyone else in Rank at the current moment, instead of a situation where the rookie top pay Sgt go to a new top pay while we have to catch up. The only retro the rookie top pay SGT is the difference btwn $118k & $130k/$134k, its really not that much. In the end, yes 1200 SGT still got the shit end of the stick, losing out on, well in my case, approx $60k in retro, and not just the retro, the years of interest on that money, but theres no one to blame but the SGTs who voted in 2021, and if youre one of them in here, you should be ashamed of yourself to think 1-2% yearly raises justified adding an extra step & settling before PBA. So dont take your anger out on the contract now, like I said before its fair even though Ive lost out, Im more focused now on the future, being able to support my family, you want to make that lost retro back, take the money & put it into stocks while theyre low because in 2 years itll double. I dont do deferred comp, I invest on my own & its worked out a lot better than what DC did for me.

Open and free elections to anyone who wants to run. And having an open debate to anyone who will ask questions is best way. Who knows, maybe itll run one day like EVERY other voting process. VOTE NO. This is horse shit
I should be happy because the guy with 7 years on and a year in rank who has made a hundred thousand dollars more than me the last 3 years will be dwarfing my 40 months of retro. Im so happy for him XD

I want you to know that I agree with you, and youre completely justified in how you feel & I second it. Yes, the giveback is our retro. Yes, we got a pretty shit end of the stick. Yes, we deserve better. I dont think I cant afford to roll the dice & gamble on a better deal, we dont know how much longer it would take. i dont know how much longer Id be able to survive. So yes, youre right, but I wave the white flag To sign this deal.
Remind me, how long did they have to wait?
waited long enough to get paid more than SGTs. We waited and still got paid less than them for all those years if you werent at top pay.
You guys could ruin an erection. We got raises, we got retro, and didnt give anything back. We won. Celebrate instead of comparing yourself to someone else.
Youll never be able to make everyone happy. This job is loaded with people who love to complain. Its the same ones who complain how terrible the mayor and elected officials are but then have a million excuses as to why they dont vote.
Do you want me to remind you about COVID hitting us and stopping contact talks or the mediator getting cancer and had to leave in the r middle of the process and it had to start over again? In the end they got an awesome deal.
The give back was 5 minute way up time, the compression issue isnt fixed and no one got retro from when cops became sergeants and went right to top pay. Sounds like give backs to me, or am I missing something?
Its a complaint that cops got promoted to sergeant and went straight to top pay, while we all had years in rank and were stuck at 97k? Thats a complaint? Its a complaint that our union didnt back us and did nothing about it? Its a complaint that those cops made top pay sergeant money for how long and none of us are getting retro from that date? Thats a fucking complaint?

Im voting a HELL YEAA
You didn't get a good deal you clowns. You got what you were supposed to get years ago, and you're happy with it now. You waited so long that it looks "good". You're the victim of over 20k Grand Larceny. If someone steals 20k from you bank account in the future, dont report it based on your logic.
Quit whining, sign it and move on
HELL YEA*2
Hahah I love it!
Cops will make more then sergeants again once they settle their contract. This is a temporary fix.
The idea is to let them settle first, then we negotiate ours.
Exactly. I feel ppl are losing brain cells in here.
I say vote no just to fuck with your pension interest even more.
Look this goes on everywhere my friend works at transit he says when clerks and cleaners get promoted to supervisor they make less than the people they supervise until they go through the steps to top pay so in a nut shell all unions are full of it
New SGTs now start at $119,617 that is $10k more than a Top Pay Cop, when cops were at $86,500 SGTs were at $97k so its the same difference, this doesnt hurt any unborn whatsoever.
Respect!
Nope. Somebody said they emailed out a retro calculator too and I didnt get that
Tomorrow
