Well done ladies and gents. The phone calls and e-mails and even the posting on this board is clearly being seen by the SBA. Otherwise I suspect they wouldnt have sent the email they just did. At the very least they know we are aware of the situation and wont be happy if its not rectified. Keep it up everyone.

Agreed and its sad that this is what it takes for them to send updates its ridiculous and somehow we will be the last union to settle. I cant really understand what the city is Evaluating its either they accepted the proposal or not to bump our pay and the specifics of that proposal should be explained in detail to us.

Its most likely bad news which is why they keep dancing around the issue.

Id love to imagine things are going to change. But the reality is many on this job are very short sided. When the contract comes out, most will only see the percentages and press yes. Wont be worried about the unborn. Not concerned with the shit sandwiches a lot of you guys had to eat with this top pay disparity. They see money and forget about 90% of the nonsense emails this absentee president sends out. The lack of knowledge and answers the delegates give. All gets forgiven because they were able to hammer down the exact same contract everyone else got. Not that theyll get us some amazing contract. That we held out and it paid for. The exact same contract everyone else got and in the end what has been fixed or rectified for the sergeants who are making less than cops? NOTHING is done. Tier 3 members need to start getting involved. There are tier 3 captains on this job and were still trying to get stuff like the social security offset taken care of. Im not saying tier 2 members dont feel our pain. But the members of the board who have over 30 years on the job and havent had a bad day in the field since the 90s. They absolutely do not give a damn about our plight. But like most cops. We sit back and hope others on this job will fight for us. Its like elections in this city. We will piss and moan about how terrible the politics of this city are and how bad we have it, and then you ask these same people who they voted for and youll get the I didnt vote, who cares, my vote doesnt count what differences does it make. We are our own worst enemies and we are notoriously lazy when it comes to stuff like this. The only way things will change is when we make them change. Vote these empty suits out. Get fresh new blood in there. Guys that are going to fight for tier 3. Guys that are going to fight for the new sergeants and the unborn. Some tier 2 sergeant with 35 years on who hasnt been on the street or in a precinct since before 2000, does not give a flying fu** about anything that is being said here. So then send him packing. Let them know their services are no longer needed. I dont know when the next election is. But vote this go along to get along president the fu** out.

You gotta love how that email conveniently ignored the other valid points being made that this union is OUT OF TOUCH with the majority of its members and that nearly every clown in that office remained in place after $600,000+ was pilfered from our coffers. It reminds me of that leaked audio from the PBA delegate meeting/hit-job, where they ripped into that one cop that was running for treasurer with Gable; Either they are STUPID, or they are perps its one or the other!. Who knows bad, bad look though. Should have ALL RESIGNED from the union.

Todays email was probably the most proactive thing these guys have done since they had to pack up shop and search for bugs after the Mullins Snafu. Theres some well thought out arguments here and I hope you folks take this seriously.
Honest opinion, the Pba and Sba need a tier 3 president, the issues impacting the members moving forward will overwhelmingly be tier 3. Its very disheartening to know that it took a slew of calls, emails and Rising Star posts for these guys to acknowledge some of the problems.
This really isnt the correct forum for this (I think we all know that) but to quote a great former delegate: the Pba was created in the lounge I think theres a lot of bright people here who would make fantastic delegates and board members.
The Sba was once the strongest union on the job, that is clearly no longer the case.

The email today was suspiciously timed and worded. Almost specifically answering issues brought up on this board.
Why is it counter-productive to keep us informed on negotiations? Is it because its more work for the SBA?
What is our side proposing? What is the city proposing? What are the counter offers? What are the issues holding up a deal? What is their response to sergeants making less than cops as of 8/1/21, and do they understand we should be adjusted and paid retroactively accordingly?
These are not difficult bits of information to pass along. We have a right to know whats going on. Not waiting months in between emails that just say, were working on it.
In the meantime, groceries and life expenses keep rising and rising. I tried to pay my credit card bill with my Hershey Park tickets, but they said they dont except them as payment.
I think as a sign of solidarity the SBA board members should lower their salaries to $96,000 until a proper contract is ratified and the rest of the union membership is compensated.

The fact that the union acknowledged this platform as a potential threat to the organizations stability is extremely troubling. This exposes the incompetence and lack of transparency in the process. Why would they reference a thread full of union members transition to another union soon. The only reason is that the 4500 POs on the Sgt list are being influenced by these conversations and may expose the SBA by digging around.

Im with you on the lack of information by the union representatives at commands but I dont fully believe its only them to blame for this snafu. Members need to going forward wait for PBA to settle first and then negotiate new contract. For the record I voted no on both last contracts. One with PBA and one with SBA. I do remember seeing that 25% didnt even bothered to vote in the sba.

The only way to fix this right now is to bring every sgt to top pay. Then going forward once the contract is ratified they can start new SGTs at step 1. The best part is I asked the sba about this when I was in BMOC when the rumors about the PBA getting a new contract started and Vinny looked me right in the face and said he would never let a cop make more than his SGTs. Well congratulations, not only are cops making more than me but so are rookie SGTs in bmoc!

The more and more I think about this, the more Pissed off I get. What is the best course of action for our rally on the 26th. I believe press should be involved, how ever that hAppens. We need to organize. Keep the pressure up. I cant go gentle into that good night! I cant leave in to the hands of people that we will be voting out next election. If theyre reading this(probably are) youre done. As stated 25% didnt even vote, currently theres approx 4,000 and change in the rank. Which means we make the majority. Enjoy the last few years on the board because wether its some one on here or not, the people currently residing will be ousted. Better plan for retirement and the shortest reign of the SBA board. Someone should make an Instagram, post the rally info and we spread it on that platform. Get a better head count on attendance. Any better ideas?

embarrassing... If the number really is 2000 sergeants that are caught in this bermuda's triangle - that's just under half of the amount of sergeants on this job... according to NYPD online there is about 4200... if the next contract sucks in terms of retro and sergeants actually band together it could easily be vetoed.
also, a quick reminder:

1. These were run up to todays date of October 3, 2023. They do not include longevity, overtime, etc...this was run using only base salaries. (which means retro would be more).
2. This is a rough estimate. I ran the numbers several times but no ones perfect.
3. Please do not confuse retro payments due to raises. This is completely separate.
4. I used the promotion dates I was able to get off the 2016 Sgt Forum but this applies to any class promoted after August 1, 2017
Bottom line, if you were promoted after August 1, 2017 up to the most recent classes, you were paid less than a Police Officer as of August 1, 2021.
We can go on and on about rumors and what delegates are and are not telling us, but you cant dispute numbers. The union might very well be fighting for this retro, and its just alot of misinformation, but at this point in time delegates are telling us that its a done deal, that the union will not attempt to get us this retro. Just remember, youre paying $1,400 a year in dues to have delegates tell you youre not getting paid whats owed.
Ultimately, many will say "job is dead" or "union sucks" but you have the final vote. Everytime there's subpar contract, there's a 70%+ vote for approval. If you vote yes for a contract in which the union doesnt even attempt to fight for compensation thats owed, then you only have yourself to blame.

A SBA delegate sent out a group text today acknowledging this thread and the fact that the union is expecting some type of large turn out or protest at the upcoming meeting. Its great that they acknowledged this and are clearly worried that their lack of urgency and transparency is finally being called out. Til then, chat everyone up that you can- this weekend seems like a good opportunity.
(or the SBA can give us a substantive update. If the info is too sensitive for an email blast, put it out through delegates. Or at least have said delegates have a better answer than yeah, thats crazy, sorry bro when you ask why your family is out $40K+ because you took a promotion.)
I agree that this message board isnt the best way to reach everyone that needs to be in the know. Im sure the large majority of the 2,000 sergeants that are getting screwed by this contract have Instagram and that would be the best way to convey information. The SBA better give more than a Hey We Are Working On It cause as of right now I fully believe they will not be fixing the pay Disparity unless the City is nice enough to do it for them and they are afraid to just tell us that

Thank you for the kind words. I dont know if Im the right person for the job but I can assure you the current board is not. All other unions have settled/are in the process of settling. The numbers are set in stone and the board is fighting a losing battle. Regardless of whats going on, the lack of transparency does not help. Its a part of a larger issue which hopefully the uncle will be able remedy shortly.
Fraternally,
The Uncle

Should probably start when cops began to make more then us.
So just call it 90 days then and counting
So we're at about 117 days and counting.
Its taking so long that Rising Star already Archived the last 3 Promo Test Threads lol
Lol, hopefully doesnt so long that the new threads for upcoming exams are created Lol
step 5 is 105
step 6 (top pay) is 118
...just saying.
If you were a sgt on 8/1/21, this doesnt apply to you.
We need an instagram page to plan these rallies and show up in force to these meetings so our voices can be heard. We're not being properly represented and these clowns are collecting our dues and laughing at us.
Be the new face of the union.
Non contractual info for a sec. Please everyone stay safe, the next few days may be very trying.
Fraternally,
The uncle
Regular gross 4,021.98
Longevity Increment 11.48
Uniformed longevity 283.94
Night Shift Differential 331.26
Neighborhood Policing 90.50.
4,739.19
Congratulations SBA!!!!!
Cops make more than us
embarrassing...
A SBA delegate sent out a group text today acknowledging this thread and the fact that the union is expecting some type of large turn out or protest at the upcoming meeting. Its great that they acknowledged this and are clearly worried that their lack of urgency and transparency is finally being called out. But, with that said, we have to show up and follow through on what weve been talking about. We need a big showing on 10/26.

I agree that this message board isnt the best way to reach everyone that needs to be in the know. Im sure the large majority of the 2,000 sergeants that are getting screwed by this contract have Instagram and that would be the best way to convey information. If no one else creates a page within the next week, Ill do it.
I Think there may be an instagram page up for this already make noise
