I remember being at a detail and a detective trying to tell me that becoming a Lieutenant was a bad deal because you lose the chart days, I feel that advice should come from someone who is there. If you want advice about being happily married dont ask your 45 year old single friend. I tell my guys dont fall into that trap of listening to other cops in the locker room about how being a boss is a terrible thing, because theyll discourage you. As cops we repeat what other cops say just because. My old CO said I get how some dont want to become Captain because of the head ache and taking work home with you. The argument is I make over time as a Lieutenant but he said that didnt make sense financially, people dont give up eight months of studying to lose money. Every rank has plus and minuses but you have to always look at the big picture.

Vacancies as of 9/8/23
Sergeant 3678 out of 4101 -423
Lieutenant 1317 out of 1444 -127
Captain 361 out of 350 +11 (15 on Terminal net of -4)

The LBA agreed to 12 hour tours with the stipulation that they would have two LT per 12 hour tour built in to the deal now whether or not the city honors that is a different issue but it will at least create a need for more LTs

I doubt the LBA has agreed to anything. Just like the SBA I know for a fact has not agreed to anything with regards to the tours. The SBA is waiting to be compensated appropriately for the chart changes. The LBA will settle up after the fact. Also 2 LTs per tour being guaranteed? Thats a joke. Just like sgts must have drivers right? The Executives will use and abuse as always.

Emails were sent out to LBA members, they are going to do the 12 Hour Tours, but nothing is ratified because they are waiting on the SBA. Like I said before i seriously doubt there will actually be 2 per tour but thats what was proposed to the LBA on paper im sure its reassuring for the LBA, but will it actually happen I doubt it. The SBa has a meeting schedules for September 21st so well see if they announce anything, At this point I dont expect anything settled until closer to end of the year but well see.

I'm a Lieutenant and did not get any e-mails from LBA regarding 12 hour tours. LBA is not even discussing 12 hour tours with the city, until they see how it is going to work with SBA. Lieutenants always get a piece of the weekend and 10-12 hour tours can affect overtime negatively. So they are very cautious.

they mean they're combining SDS/SSA + SGT and LCD/LSA + LT... because at the end of the day they are still either a SGT or a LT

You get promoted to Sergeant or Lieutenant from the Civil Service Exam. LSA/LCD/SSA/SDS are all discretionary. Hence, the only vacancies you need to be concerned about are the vacancies for the Civil Service titles of Sergeant and Lieutenant and how many there are in each.

these are not average length lists from the past. look at other 2 tests, 4600 Sgt list! so for them to complete list in 4 years, 375 is the number. That's only 25/30 Lt's a month with passovers. Sgt classes have been putting out 85. 3:1. The numbers are correct.

Im not saying its not possible but the previous list was extended by a year to be completed just like the previous Captain/SGT and last year they pushed out promos to finish the list and they only did about 288 Lt with 6 classes which is slightly over the average of 180-250 and also the largest amount of LT classes they did in a promotional year for LT. There is no way to know how many classes they do or the amount but to reach 375 they would have to do around 60 LT per every class which is alot or around 8-9 classes in the year with around 45-50 LT which i dont see them doing because for the most part they usually do less LT classes vs SGT classes in a promotional year. Not saying they wont finish the list but the pacing will most likely be much smaller than what the SGT classes do

the % are agreed upon. The city knows its either settle it now or get sued & end up paying more in the end on retro. wont affect the contract. Adams is cutting OT. What makes you think he wont cut promotions? people are about to start dropping like flies again.

Can you explain why this is what anyone cares about? Not doubting you but just curious. Is an LSA who is an admin lt or SSA who is public safety sgt not counted in the vacancy numbers or something?
thanks.
they mean they're combining SDS/SSA + SGT and LCD/LSA + LT... because at the end of the day they are still either a SGT or a LT
Your user name takes on an entirely different meaning if you read it with that S over one place.

News to you doesn't mean no one heard it. It was posted before on this thread. Scroll up and read
9/11 isnt a holiday where everyone is off.
Not saying they wont finish the list but the pacing will most likely be much smaller than what the SGT classes do
And to answer your question, yes those would count as vacancies towards the rank.
Cant freeze hires if there are none lol. The only thing Im worried about is this negatively impacting our contract.
the % are agreed upon. The city knows its either settle it now or get sued & end up paying more in the end on retro. wont affect the contract. Adams is cutting OT. What makes you think he wont cut promotions? people are about to start dropping like flies again.
They would need a list for that updates anyone ?
Na lol
During the financial meltdown of 2008 promotions were slow through 2010 but they didnt stop. Furthermore the mayor said there is no hiring freeze for anything related to public safety. the last Sgts list taught me if you think you know how this is gonna go. Your wrong. Totally unpredictable
Well said
