As of March 4, there are 31 lieutenant vacancies (which includes allotment for LCD/LSA), and an additional 28 on terminal leave. Looks like a good number of terminals converted over, plus some new ones filed. Even better, this does not include today's promotions of 15 captains. That effectively brings us to 46 vacancies.

I know this may be a tedious question. Do we know how many vacancies there were when the last classes were promoted? Do they put in a few extra? I know the first class of 50 was made when we had over 80 vacancies.. I am asking because I'm 40+ names away so I am on the fence.

Wouldn't really have a choice...I'd lose access to the numbers! Also, 4 more Lt's put their papers in- 2 yesterday, 2 today. Add those to the terminal numbers. They all have retirement dates effective at the end of May.

I was registered a long time ago and had some input 11 years ago. Now I have some news for you guys to digest.
Talking to a LBA delegate and he said 3/4 of the 1700 lt are all eligible to retire. Now what I dont know is how many from that group are at top pay. The LBA most likely will follow the teacher's union contract. A 44 month contract with zero at the end of the contract.
So with vacancies and people on terminal at around 90-100. In total. This new contract will push out a lot of Lt if they decide to follow the pattern.
I've been reading the forum. IMHO the cut # has to be higher than 800. Figure the math . Capt list+ current vac/term= 300ish ..then add the LT who want to retire after the contract. I peg it at 300ish and rising each passing year. Final cut.. like 1000.

As of 11/1 the lt contract expired. As of April 2018 the dept ordered lt and Sgt to wear BWC. On June 4, sba is going to arbitration for the BWC. Once a decision is made, sba will focus on the contract.
As for the teacher's contact. It's a 44 month contract. 36 months up front with the last 8 months of a ZERO. I'm uncertain if they gave anything back. However, dont be surprised if they add another step to LT or a bigger payout at the end of the contract.

This really makes a lot of sense. I've always felt 1000 and less are safe. While it's very true that we don't know what will happen, it would be pure confirmation bias to think the whole list will get made based on what we know and what we've seen.
