I just wish the union was honest with us. 5 minutes wash-up time is the only giveback if youre playing semantics. The 1200 losing out on top pay retro isnt a giveback because you cant giveback what you never had, but it was absolutely a bargaining chip that they leveraged to get themselves better deals. The city didnt negotiate for 4 years to get 10 minutes from us. Vinny sold us out.

The real winners here are those promoted 23-24, who will be getting a shitload more retro/total compensation than those promoted late 2019-early 23.
Again, truly glad that those promoted 21-22 dont have to spend 5 years on the steps.

I would only be making assumptions but It may have to do with PBA having better longevity + Neighborhood policing thus newly minted SGT's coming from their previous contract would be making more per check.
$109,352 Base for Top Pay Cop + $2460 = $111,812 so step 4 would be the next.

Who isn't made whole? Everyone promoted 2022 or later is hitting top pay with less time in rank than guys promoted before. Are guys that spent 4 years to reach top pay supposed to complain?
Getting this through now is a win for everyone. All the 97 guys are getting an immediate 40k raise and the 118 guys are getting close to a 20k raise.

Sergeants promoted in 2020, 2021, thereabouts, who have already done their 4 years to top pay or are just about to hit. Probably about 500, tops. Top pay on the arbitrary date of 12/24 either doesnt help them any or too much. If there werent 1000 sergeants who went to top pay with 0 days in rank, wouldnt be an issue. May have provided leverage to get a better deal for 2022/2023 promotees, which is very important. There are losers here, though. So it goes.

Lets not forget why were in this position in the first place. The SBA has a habit of rushing to get a contract done instead of just waiting for the PBA. All the unions should negotiate together and at the same time. There were a lot of sergeants stuck at 97k watching cops go straight to top pay sergeant for a long time. Setting a retroactive date to December 10 is complete bullshit. We all should have been made whole from the date they started going to top pay. I dont see this contract as a win, this was all set in stone. Im glad the people that were stuck at the 5 year step are being helped out and going to top pay now, but retro to December 10 is bullshit. We waited all this time for this? Just dove into this a little more. Looks like they're due another pay raise next year too.
I was just curious if it's a negligible pay raise from sgt to LT now. It's like 1000 bucks right now. Next year it'll be like a 7k raise.
