they would have to have a surplus of sergeants to not put in even a small class, hopefully this is a signal that they are trying to push this thing through. But then again this is the NYPD we will hopefully be pleasantly surprised soon enough.

Important Update: Sergeant Promotions on Hold Due to an ongoing dispute between the city and the Sergeants Benevolent Association (SBA), all promotions to Sergeant have been indefinitely put on hold. The stalemate between the two parties has brought the promotion process to a standstill. Furthermore, the Police Commissioner (PC) has decided to temporarily halt promotions of Police Officers/Detectives to supervisory roles due to internal personnel issues. Rumors are circulating that the current promotion list may be capped at 2500, sparking tensions between the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) and the PC. If this happens, the SBA has threatened to take legal action against the city.
any truth behind this ?

Its the same shit every month. This date is the next meeting, this date is the next meeting, this date is the next meeting, and nothing accomplished and no information from Union itself. No response letting us know where we stand with the city and how this refusing 12 hour tours will effect the process and our pay. Remember those numbers, $134k June & $140k December, because the city will change those #s in spite of refusing 12hr tours.

If we were to accept 12 hour tours. Anyone on a 5-2 chart would lose their 27 chart days they build throughout the year. Essentially taking a $15,000 pay cut. But sure lets just accept it without any addition compensation.

12 hours doesnt apply to Units or Administrative positions. Even if it did, youre gaining atleast 1 day a week sometimes 2, so those days youre saving up youll already be off. How many sergeants work later now or come in early just to build that time off, and patrol SGTs arent getting 27 chart days. But enjoy your top pay while we all starve cuz youre worried about time.

Its just such a weak plank to negotiate on.
12 hour tours- which the PBA fought FOR, which lieutenants accepted without a fight the union is saying sergeants- specifically sergeants and no one else- cant do the same 12 hour tours that everyone else is doing because reasons.
From the outside looking in it must really seem absurd.
Add the fact that smart money has the whole pilot program getting canned by the PC shortly, and its yet another WTF, SBA situation.

Exactly, by the time they decide to implement the 12 hour tours the pilot program will eventually be cancelled. Out of all the Pct, Housing, and Transit district only a small % of command are doing the 12 hour tours. Put it to vote and let us get our money and after December renegotiate VINNY!

Here is a line of thinking I would like our representatives to present to the mediator and the city, and I genuinely would like to hear the counter argument.
I was promoted to sergeant. I did not expect to become wealthy or do less work than I previously did at the rank of PO. From the day of my promotion, I expected to receive a higher base salary than the people I supervise and am responsible for. I further expected to receive the same or more in base salary than those promoted after me.
Were these unreasonable expectations?

According to SBA President Vallelong despite ongoing rumors there will be a large promotion to the rank of Sergeant on April 25,2025. Due to the lack of promotions of the past few months this class will consist of 275 newly promoted Sergeants who will be the last class to go straight to top pay. After this class he suspects the contract will be settled and the pay difference will even out throughout the rank. Despite further rumors SBA will not be going to 12 hour tour no matter how hard the city pushes. This is unsafe and does not benefit the membership. He did verify that this list will be cut at some point but would not give a list number in which he feels is safe. Anther breaking news WhatsApp post.

We really are a pathetic union. I think the time has come where the delegates need to get signatures together of those who think we should just have the membership vote on whats being offered to us right now including the 12 hour tours. Clearly this board doesnt care what we have to say. But maybe if they just see how many people are disgusted with their shit and antics and selfish ways.
