So from what Im seeing there was offer and acceptance of the pattern, then 12 hour tours were wedged into the offer after the fact. Retro pay throughout, no givebacks. All sergeants to top pay upon ratification, but not retroactively. Sorry if you were promoted from 2020-23, you made less than a cop for a few years, we were dopes for getting promoted, so I consider that a sell out right there. The 12 hour tours that the rest of the job is on is the sticking point. This is intolerable.

12 hour tours held it up. No top pay retro. You get retro based on the step you were at previously. I highly suggest everyone please read the numbers that are being put in front of you. Dont sign a contact that doesnt give us what we deserve. Vin should have walked out of the meeting. There is no contract unless everyone is at top pay WITH RETRO from the date new sergeants went to top pay. Dont sign it and let the SBA know how you feel. We all almost got fucked out of thousands of dollars. That didnt hold the contract up. 12 hour tours did. Pathetic. VOTE NO IF WE DONT GET THE RETRO WE DESERVE!!! I am actually pissed off. They were going to sign a contract where a good portion of us were going to lose money. Why do brand new sergeants get top pay retro for the last 2 years and we dont get shit? We took the test before some of these new sergeants were even on the job! We busted our ass those years with no contract only to find out that new cops getting pelted go to top pay. Our union couldnt get their shit together and now they get too pay retro and we all get fucked? No. Absolutely not. We didnt wait this long to get fucked out of OUR hard earned money.

I am still in shock. A contract was other. Weve of being signed that did nothing for probably 2,000 sergeants. Bringing a few hundred people to top pay this month isnt going to do anything. When they held the rally it was 1,200. Dont realize how many people have went onto pay nance then and wont receive anything?

Glad I froze my balls off at that rally to get sold out by my union. I would have more money in my pocket if I got promoted three years later. 12 hour tours are going away anyhow. Vote them out.

Contract- past month on phone daily with the city. City sent agreement (not signed by city) to vinny he signed. 3-4 hours later city reneged. They want 12 hour tours. This is what they offered at first.
1. Changing step 4 of pay scale. Currently as of 2024 115,016 to 12/10/25 119,617. Giving up 5 mins wash up time. Sgts would be above cops at step 4. Everyone would go to top pay. Everyone would get retro- guys going to top pay would get retro based on the scale they were at. Not a top pay scale.
2. City wants 12 hour tours. We would not be compensated for the 12 hour tours. City would save upward of 12% and no compensation from that savings would be given to us
3. No give backs from us in the offer other than 5 mins wash up time.
City wanted a voluntary pilot program for 12 hour tours. 50 Sgts to volunteer for one year. Vinny agreed. City came back and said non voluntary all Sgts.
Vinny hears talks from 1pp that the 12 hour tours are out job wide by the end of the year.
12/10/24 top pay is 134,819.
12/10/25 top pay is 140,212

Im signing it because the Union fucked us & theres nothing anyone can do about it. The City had US by the balls. The fact were all going to Top Pay like we wanted is whats important. We all knew we were going to get fucked one way or another. I dont know why you act so surprised & expect more in return. Going to $140,212 plus additional helps me pay for a new home and my newborn. What are we really talking about for retro after it all gets incinerated by taxes. I cant live at $97k anymore. I cant do it anymore. Keep the extra at this point.

Surprised, no, man, not at all. Just disappointed and wondering what it was all for. Time was always on the citys side, leaves guys like you and me desperate to just get the raise and stop the bleeding. This contract will be ratified. There is no sense in delaying it over 12 hour tours- especially if the only upshot in this contract is being elevated to top pay upon effective date, not a fixed date (like, say, August 2023 when new guys went direct to top pay)- every day wasted is directly burning your money.

Far as I understand it (Im in that boat), no. We will get retro for whatever percentage raises apply on our flat 97K. Not great for us. Especially since Im pretty sure that puts us behind cops- could be wrong on that, but not by much.

And due to our union leaving us COMPLETELY IN THE DARK about this whole process, I dont even know if this is the first step? Last step of the process? Is this the final offer? Thats how I am reading it, yes, unfortunately. But as I mentioned before, city has us by the balls, the city doesnt have to do shit for us but theyre doing the right thing by putting us at a $134k Top Pay, $140k in Dec, & the new SGTs start at step 4 with $119k. That deal seems fair to me.

Considering the bind the city actually has the SBA in, I think its a more than fair offer. And the only reason why its not a better deal is because of how long the SBA has taken to settle. If they agreed to this earlier, that would have been more time for Sgts to be at top pay. Of course they flaunted the idea of fighting for Sgts retroactively going to top pay which never would have been an idea in our heads if not brought up. Vinny masterclass. There are a lot of young Sgts on this job that would more than likely pass this contract. But the guys closer to retirement are worried about their overtime with the 12 hour tours. And those are the only people Vinny has been concerned about from the start.

I think you hit this on the head. It was never about the pay issue for Vinny. It was the incoming 12-hour tours. And he used/fucked over the 1,200 while doing it.
As a current 97k sergeant I gross ~ $4,260 Bi-Weekly with night diff and no overtime This contract (before the December raise) is ~ $5,960 Bi-Weekly ~ $10,000 retro with a little over 1.5 years in rank. Im conflicted, but put it out to vote

I cant believe I fell for this shit. This whole thing has been a giant cluster fuck. This will now go down as the second time in 10 years that sergeants are paid less the cops and the SBA AGAIN for the second time, has shown that they dont care. I cant believe I thought we would all be made whole and brought to top pay when the first class went in. 1,300 cops went straight to top pay sergeant, while close to 2,000 sergeants still made less then them. They promoted sergeants like here was no tomorrow, putting them all to top pay. What do we have to show for it? Those stuck at 97k dwindled over the years. That number is probably around 600 or 700 now that are at 97k. All 2,000 of us got fucked. I hope you men and woman can open your eyes and see that. We were lied to this whole time. Thinking we would have the opportunity to get top pay retro. What a fucking sham. At this point what is the SBA fighting for? The only thing worth fighting for was protecting the members that are getting fucked. The fights over. Take the contract and move on. Fuck the 5 minutes wash up time. Fuck the SBA. Fuck this message board. Fuck the city. Fuck the contract Im over it. Everyone that was stuck at 97k while cops went to top pay on a test they took after us should be just as pissed off as I am.

Here is the full DN article Union officials say the city is holding a new contract with NYPD sergeants hostage unless the union agrees to work 12-hour tours a nonstarter the Sergeants Benevolent Association says would endanger both their members and the public. After two years of negotiations, the SBA leadership had signed a memorandum of agreement on a contract with the city they were preparing to put out to members for a vote. But at the eleventh hour the city announced that the new contract couldn't go forward unless NYPD sergeants agree to 12-hour tours, President Vincent Vallelong told the Daily News. "For the past year and a half, we've told the city we didn't want 12-hour tours because it's not good for our members. It's not good for their health, it's not good for their home life and, because they make life-and-death decisions, it's not good for anyone," Vallelong said. "And now they shove 12 hours down our throats at the last minute." City Hall declined to comment, saying it cannot speak about ongoing contract negotiations, but a source with knowledge of the negotiations said claims that the city added the 12-hour tours at the last minute were "false." The 12-hour tour agreement was sent when the memorandum was sent, the source said. Union delegates shot down the new caveat at a Thursday morning meeting, said Vallelong who added that studies performed by the NYPD and the Department of Justice show police officers in leadership positions tend to make bad decisions after working 10 hours. In 2023, the city Department of Investigation determined that lengthier shifts were associated with an increased amount of workplace injuries, vehicle collisions, risk of lawsuits and substantiated CCRB complaints but the study was for overtime hours, not extended tours with equal time off. There are currently 4,300 sergeants in the NYPD, which has about 36,000 members. By July, 1,100 sergeants will have vested their pensions and would be free to retire, said Vallelong, adding that the NYPD hasn't promoted anyone to sergeant since January. Twelve-hour tours are an "unrealistic" goal for sergeants who already work extra hours at the end of their shift to do department paperwork and have an hour or more commute home, union members said. "It's absolutely ridiculous," said one Bronx sergeant who asked to remain anonymous. "We've said 'no' from the beginning, and for them to turn around and throw it on the table at the last minute is absurd. "I guess it's easy for people who don't work 12-hour tours to think that this is going to work." The city's sergeants haven't had a contract in two years because of an ongoing wage disparity affecting more than 1,200 supervisors that began when the city increased the salaries of rank-and-file police officers. After the city boosted salaries of long-serving cops, the SBA union realized that many sergeants are now earning less than the officers they oversee. Under the expired contract, the base pay for sergeants, who supervise several cops at a time while responding to 911 calls, starts at $98,000 a year and balloons to about $118,000 within five years. After the newest contract with the PBA, experienced police officers can earn about $115,000, SBA members said. The impasse comes as the Adams administration repeatedly boasts it has successfully negotiated contracts with unions representing nearly 97% of the city's workforce. Over the past year, the city has negotiated contracts with the Police Benevolent Association, United Federation of Teachers, United Probation Officers Association and Uniformed Sanitation Workers' Union, to name a few.

I got promoted in Feb 2022 with 10 years on. So if the contract was ratified today, I would be going to top pay a little under two years early but would be eating shit for the past 2 years. Does that even out in the end? Make more money than Im technically entitled to for the next two years and deal with having made less money than cops for the past two? Since the retro is gonna get smoked by taxes anyway (especially since you know theyre gonna stuff it into the holiday check) maybe were making more money in the long run. Like taking the lifelong payout in the lottery over the lump sum. Its annoying that the rookie sergeants made more money than me the last two years and will continue making the same as me going forward, but at the end of the day its other sergeants making money. Maybe they can have a GoFundMe for us.

And yeah, obviously going to top pay retroactive to July 2023 would be ideal. I dont even want to calculate how much that will cost us. But Im not getting my hopes up. Only a small percentage of us are affected by this and its crazy to expect the majority to delay getting paid to benefit us when there is zero benefit for them.

If anyone here thinks Vinny and gang are dumb, take another guess. Everything that happens, happens for a reason. 100% he thought he could push a contract through benefiting his generation. All he had to do was eliminate the naysayers; I.e. the 1200 sgts he hung out to dry. He framed it as an epic backdoor negotiating, but in reality he just waited us out until we were outnumbered.
12/10/25 top pay is 140,212
PERSONALLY, IM SIGNING THIS.
Why? Whats the benefit of getting fucked on your retro? I am assuming most people here are the ones that were at 97k for years.

Anyone who has been at top pay or went straight to top pay loses nothing here. We 1200 are a minority that will be sold out for the benefit of the majority. Which was the plan years ago. All this delay has been for nothing.
We have to all sign this. Done. No more delays
Stupid question. Is the union signing off on this and putting it out for a vote or is this more of the same.
Effectively more of the same. 12 hour tours are preventing this from being brought to the membership.

Youre absolutely right & im sorry I didnt mean you I was referring to was us in general, but You nailed it on the head, made us bleed out until we just agreed to giving them as much money as possible, smaller retro & saving them money on tours. If its going to end any way, just agree to it & let it play out. These tours only apply to Patrol and how else can you supervise your guys properly unless we all do the same tours
The city or the SBA wont budge on the 12 hours tours, see you in 2026
Put the contract to a vote. This guy Vinny cuckelong wont let his members decide who do patrol if they want 12 hour tours or not.
Only two more months before the SBA enjoys a nice summer off for all their hard work. Ill just continue to make my 97k and tell my wife and kids theyll have to make due because your dad was an idiot and took a promotion!
Is there anything different, top pay retro wise, for the guys promoted before the last contract was ratified but still arent at top pay?
Far as I understand it (Im in that boat), no. We will get retro for whatever percentage raises apply on our flat 97K. Not great for us. Especially since Im pretty sure that puts us behind cops- could be wrong on that, but not by much.

You would think, at the BARE FUCKING MINIMUM, that if they were going to fuck us and not put us at top pay they could at least put us just above cop top pay for those years in question. But nope, I am appalled. I too am in a position where I need the bump from 97k, but this is such a slap in the face. And due to our union leaving us COMPLETELY IN THE DARK about this whole process, I dont even know if this is the first step? Last step of the process? Is this the final offer? What the fuck is going on that I have to come to a FUCKING TROLL MESSAGE BOARD, of which I am guilty of, to find out what is happening with my financial future.
You would think, right? This thread has 1212120 views. Thats almost a million and a quarter times where a sergeant who hasnt heard from the union or their delegate has clicked on this dopey site just to find out something, anything about their familys financial future. Disgraceful.
8/1/22 - 12/9/22 - 3.5% 12/10 - 7/31/23 - 3.25% 8/1/23 - 12/9/23 - 3.5% 12/10/23 - 7/31/24 - 3.5% 8/1/24 - 12/9/24 - 4.00% 12/10/24 - (Whenever we Sign) or 7/31/25 - 3.5% Retro will be based on those percentages during those specific timeline.
So it wouldnt be under the pay steps, it would be off of the percentage of what we made that particular year ?
Thats how I am reading it, yes, unfortunately. But as I mentioned before, city has us by the balls, the city doesnt have to do shit for us but theyre doing the right thing by putting us at a $134k Top Pay, $140k in Dec, & the new SGTs start at step 4 with $119k. That deal seems fair to me.
Anyone good at math that can do the break down what those percentages translates to the year base for 1,200 sgt? Curious
The only thing everyone should agree on is whether this passes or not. This board has proven how completely useless, incompetent and have zero urgency to make sure their members are heard and represented. Everyone of those fucking morons should be seen on the appearing at pension section finest immediately following the election. They serve no purpose and have shown they dont have the best interest of their members in mind

Let me get this straight, these shenanigans were pulled at the 11th hour, and this info got disseminated to the delegates at the meeting, informal messages were passed around amongst people, an unofficial newsletter was sent out and interview with Vinny to the Daily News occurred .... but the general membership hasn't even recieved an email about what's happening? Am i the only one seeing an issue here?
Posts to the social media sites with links to the paywalled DN article just went up. E-mail, phooey.
What happened to letting the union members vote on a contract to see if they would tolerate something such as 12 hour tours. Am i missing something? I dont understand
^^^ I always find it hard to trust the daily news. But that line stuck out to me. Is it a cover up by the city to save face? If its true then what is the play here? Why not sign?

$38,000 raise being hung from a fishing pole teasing us like were bass in the river. $134k plus 15+ longevity, holiday, uniform comes to $151k then $156k in December. Thats without adjusting the percentages to longevity.
Every other union except SBA also got 2.25 differential also
LOfrigginL cant break the pattern though!
1.25 million views. Lmao!

Quite playing games Vinny and put this contract to vote!
They are smarter than anyone here gives credit for.
What wouldve really been great was leaving these rookie fucks that went straight to top pay stay at step 4 $119k until they hit top pay & get a taste of how they fkn like it while we make $15k more than them. But Vinny needs those votes. So they not only got enjoy top pay off the bat, they go to the new top pay as well.
Dont forget they also get the full retro also.
Looking forward to a 96x Sgt with a year on rolling up to the command in their new car after Ive paid a third of my credit card bills.
