Exactly, the SBA settled before the PBA and got a crappy contract with givebacks. PBA got better raises and no givebacks. Does anyone really think Vallelong is going to get us a better contract now, when he screwed up the first time? Whoever got promoted from November 2019 - December 2021 is stuck at $97k (January 2022 and on is on the new 5 step rule) while new sergeants are making $20k more. The longer this contract plays out, the more it screws the ones not at top pay yet.

Compared to Patty Lynch this SBA president is too docile. The fact that a large % of SBA members don't know his name, goes to show you how hard he advocates for his members.

SBA is working hard on that kids calendar. They will update us with another extension. Thats why contract is not getting priority as SBA president loves artwork.

I wonder, how many Sergeants have ever voted for an SBA president? To think that the majority of the board remained intact after our former president wet his beak a little with union dues is problematic. The optics of it just arent great. I was promoted at the end of 2019 and am still a few months away from top pay. For some context, there have been roughly 2000 sergeants promoted since I got call up to the big leagues. This issue impacts nearly half the active membership. Youd think theyd have a little sense of urgency, but instead we get emails about Hershey and the art calendar.
The Sba board needs new blood.

Couldnt be any more true, the board does not care about the membership, ran into them recently at a detail and starting asking aboit the contract and they said "theyre working on it" what a joke. The only question I want answered is why our union heads and fellow sgts think is at all acceptable to have our subordinates making more money than us.
Lastly, they had MONTHS to figure this out, i get they are at the mercy of the city but a little communication would go a long way

Just my personal opinion but I think the Union could have this settled, but they are working on something for their personal benefit. I think most Sergeants want 10/12 hours tours because it less appearances and a better home life. I have spoken to several Sergeants who all say they would take 10/12 hour tours without any extra pay. I think the Union is pushing for extra pay for 10/12 hour tours so they get an extra benefit in their pockets.
Remember any non monetary benefit they get us in a contract does not help them or the unions finances. The board will not be working 10/12 hour tours, they will work whatever hours with the union they normally work (probably less than 8 hrs 57 mins on most days). So accepting 10/12 hour tours would not change their situation, but a pay differential lets say would go into their pocket to accept a tour they would never even work anyway.
My opinion accept the 10/12 hour tours in exchange for fixing the pay scale with retro. Once again, remember the pay scale does not affect any of them either. CALL AND EMAIL THE UNION, MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD.

My personal opinion before others on this forum with more insider info than me spoke up was that we would not fix the Pay Disparity but if they do address it I just dont see them giving us Retro for it especially if its a City Funded type of thing like the PBA just got.

Our union is corrupt, big surprise there. You really think Mullins acted alone? They all suck. I took FLMA last year when my kid was born and happened to do it right before the new uniform allowance checks. I didn't get one, know why? Because I wasn't listed as active duty on October 31st and the union said tough luck, but thems the rules. So I guess my uniform allowance is just floating around somewhere out there, probably being used by Vallelong to play blackjack when they do their yearly outing to Vegas.
Also, 12 hour tours will suck. Commands already short staffed will be ok for a while, but I'll give it a few months before all those extra bosses hanging around start getting spirited away to new pct details. At the end of the day you're going to have 1 sgt covering the desk for 12 hours, and 1 on patrol for 12 hours. There's going to be a robbery or a missing at the end of tour that you will have to handle. Now your 12 hour day is 14+. Now add on your commute. 3 days off isn't enough to compensate for this.
4 10s are the one true way. Do an extra hour of work and I get to work only 4 days in a row, with a mini vacation every other week? Sign me up.

What do you know of these "every other" departments? What is their workload, what is their arrest processing procedure? What is their procedure for prisoners that have medical issues/ walkthroughs? 12 hours sound good when you sit on your ass in an office whole day. It has a whole new meaning when you have to do force reports, lod's, desk and answer jobs. Cops wanted this chart without realizing what was involved. Grass always seems greener on the other side.

Im not exactly sure how the board remained intact after that little snafu. Since the canteen is safely tucked away Im sure they are addressing the many issues that plague the membership. Just in case anyone forgot the issues lets list them:
Pay disparity where top pay cops are making approximately 10,000 dollars more a year than sergeants with a few years in rank.
Every sergeant who was promoted off this most recent list is making more than every single sergeant who wasnt previously at top pay. To dive a little deeper here, the previous class and this one getting promoted tomorrow will be making approximately 20,000 more than sergeants not previously at top pay.
Ill address the litany of issues plaguing the tier 3 sergeants at a different time as this not the correct forum.
The uncle has been fired up all day, hopefully the good folks of the SBA will address the concerns and will get a email to us shortly.
Fraternally,
The Uncle

We do not have to get adjusted. We cannot file a lawsuit. There is no legal basis to file a lawsuit, because there is no law that requires we make more than a Police Officer or Detective. The city is ONLY obligated to raise your payer higher than your last rank AT THE TIME OF YOUR PROMOTION. If a contract is settled by a lower union after makes us earn less, the city has ZERO obligation to fix it.
The ONLY way to fix the pay disparity is through a new contract (and only moving forward from the timeframe out of contract). So if the Union and General Membership ratify a contract, WE ARE SCREWED AND CANNOT FILE A LAWSUIT.
So if the SBA does not present a favorable contract to fix the pay scales, VOTE IT DOWN.
If you think Im making this up, call the SBA and ask. Its all true.

You may get it but not everyone does. And people saying hopefully the union can fix it or we will file a lawsuit is not a hope (it flat out will not happen). I will keep posting it in all caps each time someone posts about a lawsuit to educate people.
I thought we could just file a lawsuit too until I did some research and spoke to the union HQ. Sergeants need to understand they cannot just vote Yes to a contract and file a lawsuit later to fix it.

Sign me up.
this guy patrols.

Agree with everything
Pretty much every other department in the country has moved to a modern chart. Nobody showing up 5 days a week anymore. People will just have to adapt.
This grass happens to be covered in dog poop
curious as to what the larger depts in this country have tour/chart wise...
chicago, LAPD, Metro, Philly....
adapt these nuts
Deez not these.

the current contract is 6 steps.... so what is this all about?
Anyone know how far ahead the finest drops for a unit interview? A week? 3 days?
Does getting an interview pretty much mean you made it?

Any idea when the next monthly meeting is ?
Id like to show up and meet the board, since I call them weekly it would be nice to put a face to the name.
Fraternally,
The Uncle
I say we start calling every hour until its fixed
I was looking for a vp, thats the initiative I was looking for. Everyone should be calling!!
People are referencing the sgts promoted prior to the current contract. 2000 sergeants are stuck in the 96-97 range.
The additional step was added in 2021 (prolly to account for Mullins spending spree)
Fraternally,
Unc
Maybe due to the Mullins SNAFU, the city has the remaining honchos at the SBA by the balls
Fraternally,
The Uncle
Next SBA meeting is 10/26
WRONG I SAID THIS BEFORE AND NO ONE LISTENS EVERYONE PLEASE READ AND EDUCATE YOURSELVES
Everyone is just voicing what is expected or hoping from the union to work through.
if this is truly the case why aren't people requesting demotion left and right?
We can agree no one realistically wants to be a PO.
