Through the first 7 weeks of 2019 weve picked up 18 new vacancies and 38 new terminals. Thats 56 sgts who have retired or are Running their time ( yes I know some people run their time and come back, or its a scam to get a certain day off). But if you expand that out over the course of a year thats 416 potential vacancies. ((52/7) x 56 = aprox 416) Will this trend remain consistent? Probably not. Theres nothing consistent about this whole process but also realize that is without a single person getting promoted to LT. If you consider 416 potential vacancies, plus LTs promotions, plus the vacancies that already exist, theres potential for a lot of promotions To Sgt. And before someone replies that the LTs list slowed down, I did the same math for the LTs list too. If their 7 week trend continues they r looking at something like 150 potential vacancies. And thats with no one getting promoted to captain. Again full disclosure, this math is totally self serving because my list number is 1450-1470 depending which list you look at

I actually would think there would be an increase in the vacancies and the logic behind that thought is that we are coming up to the 20 year anniversaries of the large classes. Granted people are staying longer then 20 year if theyve been promoted, bust some still do leave at 20.

For Det. Simonsen' funeral, I saw A LOT of Sgts and LTs with 5 hash marks or better. A lot. I cant see them staying much longer. And no I dont believe they were retired as they were clean shaven and with their fellow collar brass/people.

3rdtime and yougonow, I want you guys to be right in the worst way. But even I think that the math I posted above is wishful thinking. So far the vacancies / terminals for this year are promising, but its got to stay this way. I need double digit vacancies / terminals every update from 63asap

If you 1470-1500 you are safe and have nothing to worry about. Im low 1800s and thats razors edge in my book. The way I see it I either make the last class or die on the list. Anyone over 2k can forget about it.

As of March 4, there are 156 sergeant vacancies (which includes allotment for SSA/SDS), and an additional 64 on terminal leave. This does not include today's promotions. That effectively brings it to ~84 vacancies (I counted 72 on the personnel order).

Although Ive generally been the voice of doom and gloom screaming that the sky is falling, through the first quarter of this year according to ASAPs updates there have been 91 new vacancies/ terminals. And thats without a single person getting promoted to LT in 2019. If those numbers keep up, plus just a respectable number of LT promotions, it should keep sgts promotions along historical averages. The overtime cap dropping from 40 to 30 is a total wild card because now retirement eligible sgts best years might be behind them. Sticking around only damages their pension.

As of mid-April, there are 151 sergeant vacancies (which includes allotment for SSA/SDS), and an additional 63 on terminal leave. Remember, this does not include the current BMOC class who will be promoted on May 3.

Picking up 33 vacancies and 6 terminals in 2 weeks I would say is gaining momentum. I believe that puts us at 130 new vacancies / terminals for the year. I believe on the same days as the sgts promotion is the LTs promotion so thatll be close to a wash

151 vacancies minus the 49 in bmoc, thats 102. Hopefully those terminals flip. Guys really should take the buyout and keep it moving. Enjoy life!

It reflects whats going to happen on May 3rd. 151 vacancies minus 49 getting promoted to Sgt plus 35 sgts getting promoted to LT. On May 4th there will be 137 vacancies

Post graduation Sgt Bmoc+/- 200 Vacancies in the next month or so just on attrition. Not including the alleged 50 Sgts going in to LT BMOC in a few weeks as well. Potentially 250 vacancies by end of July from what I gather.
Thanks 63 appreciate it.

30sgt openings due to Lt promotion, unaccounted for. Plus another 50 Sgt to Lt bmoc in a few weeks allegedly, 52 promoted to Sgt.
52 - 163 111. Lets say 80 turn from terminals, 191. Plus 70 Sgt to Lt promotees we are well into the mid to upper 200s
Minus lets say 80 for sgt bmoc promotion in 7 weeks, plus whatever vacancies between then, its still upper 190s or so presumed vacancies.
Chances are 900-920 list number for last class of 2019.

My delegate came back from the most recent DEA meeting and said that as per the union retirements are up 40% job wide this year compared to last year. This is why vacancies are so high right now. The amount of promotions isnt keeping up with retirements.

Yeah unfortunately most of those retirements are PO and Dets. I see FB posts all the time with shields on the 1pp pillow and its vast majority a white shield or a det.
