Through the grapevine, I heard the test writers were told that the city wanted a 2000 person list. They don't want to have to keep transferring people to write the test, and cops don't do a lot of work while studying on job time. This is what the job wanted

So we have the gossip mill turning at full speed. We got a DC kid is low on the list, we heard a curve due to minority hiring/gender, we now hear the city wants a 2k list and not waste resources.
Maybe the last one is true. All 3 lists are bulked up.

#2203. That's not gossip thats fact. Go look for yourself. If you don't know who he is then you haven't been on the job that long. I dont know about a curve or minority hiring/gender tho.

These rumors are out of control. Also, the inbasket wasnt that bad. It was a little overwhelming at first but once everything was organized it was not too challenging.

You know the test writers consist of 4 sgts and 1 lt. Hardly a strain on resources every couple of years.

I was more inclined to say to keep cops focused on work rather than study on job time. Didn't specify that, sorry. Longer list, greater focus.

This was probably the best year for violent crime in nyc and there were three promotional exams this year. Your theory makes no sense.

Ok cool. Just stating that its not a rumor. I personally don't think he will get left on this list. Again just my opinion not the gospel.

Just like I was told the list was 2600 people, I was also told they wanted a big list to pull from. They want to make all future tests computerized and get rid of paper tests. This list won't get killed but it will run its full term. Do not be surprised if Dept decides to extend it by a year or just let it die at 4 years.

Not true. There were 10 total supervisors who wrote the exam

Can someone please just foil request the number of throwouts/double answers? These curve conspiracy guys are seeming to grow. Just because you guys didnt pass a fair sgt exam doesnt mean you can make up fake news by saying there was a curve. DCAS would never allow a curve!

The reason the list grew by so much was because of the throwouts. From what I heard it was a straight forward exam with 30 or so questions that came down to two answers. If 1/3 of the tricky questions were thrown out then the original list would double in size. Which it effectively did. I would expect the same with the recent Lt and Capt exam. Time will tell.

I dont see why it matters if this list was curved or had a lot of throw outs. The list is what it is. I personally believe that the Dept will try to promote as many as possible but ultimately will fall a little short. Id say they get to the first 2000s before it expires.

List is 2,600+, inreality its about 300 less. You have to take into account the people that have left the job and are about to leave. There are also cops that took this test as a backup that where also on the 2013 list but are now sgts. Last but not least the people who are all jammed up and or will be as they wait. As soon as this LT list and Capt list are established it will be a steady flow of promotions.

d) The commissioner of citywide administrative services may also by resolution prior to the expiration date of an eligible list extend the duration of such list as provided for in section fifty-six of the civil service law, as amended by section one of chapter four hundred and forty-three of the laws of nineteen hundred and seventy-six.

Section D allows an extension. That's what I posted. I know for a fact a particular entrance exam was extended for a year(non nypd). It's allowed.

Yes, but NYPD can't do it, DCAS can, but they need legitimate reason, i.e, hiring freeze, promotion freeze, just as it occured from 2008-2010. So I do agree that the list maybe extended, but it's a long shot, it's like getting a hole in one.
Every exam is reviewed by 6-10 members of the same rank for which the exam is promoting to and a rank higher (Sgt exam is Sgts/LTs, LT exam is Lts/Capts, Capt exam is Capts+) before the exam is given to make sure there are no problems with the exam and/or questions. Everything is vetted.

Ohhhh okay, makes sense. Now since its curved so you think the job will run through the entire list in 4 Years OR stop at certain number in 4 Years?

Well that person just got promoted to 2nd grade with a 951 tax#. Thats 6 1/2 years on the job. Something tells me the test will be cut and that bump is to make up for what they would have made until the next SGT exam.
