WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ? AT THE END OF THE DAY HE'S GOING TO GET THE SAME ANSWER. YOU ARE GOING TO GO TO THE C.O AND SAY CAN YOU TELL ME WHY AGAIN BECAUSE HE WANTS TO KNOW WHY ? THEN YOU THE LIEUTENANT IS GOING TO COME BACK WITH THE SAME EXPLANATION THAT WAS GIVEN IN THE NARRATIVE OF THE QUESTION.

I forgot the name of the book i still think all those questions should b thrown out.
find out why and get back to him? as a boss you don't say "I don't know why they didn't pick you." Thats not leadership. Sometimes you have to be blunt with your subordinates. The question told you why they picked the other guy, so thats what I told him
The question asked for the most effective way. Telling a do nothing hairbag that he is a do nothing hairbag is not effective.
I disagree. That is effective. You politely honestly and bluntly told him the deal instead of going back to your co and asking him an answer to a question that you already knew. Sometimes it sucks being the boss but you're not there to make friends. I don't care what their books say....that's management 101

PG 203-03 COMPLIANCE WITH ORDERS
Effective: 01-01-00
COMPLIANCE WITH ORDERS
1. Be familiar with contents of Patrol Guide and revise as directed.
2. Obey lawful orders and instructions of supervising officers.
CO's memo said only he, or in his absence, the X.O. or duty captain can grant the excusal.
My eyes, when looking at the above patrol guide procedure, confirms the correct answer is to deny the e-day request. If the police supervision book says otherwise, you have two contradictory, yet both correct answers.

rumormill,
You are only temporarily correcting the situation by assigning the ado to the 124 room. Obviously this PAA needs a little more instruction and would benefit having a CMOS assist her in the 124 room until she gets her feet wet.
And yes, when rookie cops are having trouble, the bosses and senior cops always them out.

I was email by one of the promotional schools and said the following,
We are as disappointed in this test as you. We prepared you to the best of our ability and we have been preparing students for 12 years. I took the test and cant believe that they would ask you 29-30 reading comprehension, grammar, judgment, and supervisory questions. This is a major deviation to any NYPD promotional exam EVER given.
My advice:
MAIL in your protest session TODAY! Then relax and wait for the tentative DCAS answer key. Once DCAS releases the answer key, PROTEST every question you get wrong (especially the reading comprehension, grammar, judgment, and supervisory questions.) PROTEST PROTEST - PROTEST
If they provided you with a reference book on the Notice of Exam, you could have been properly prepared for this exam BUT they did NOT!
Lets see how they defend these questions.
I would make DCAS regret putting questions on the exam that they did not provide you with proper guidance.
Please let me know of any thoughts you have - Mike - myano@msn.com

For the sgt being skipped over question is completely judgmental. First off, the CO told you to handle it, so why would you go back and ask him why he skipped the SGT?
I felt the best choice was to talk to him and tell him it happened to you before and relate and let him blow off steam...why? Because it happened to me at an old job, and thats what my boss did for me when another employee got something over me. We talked and that was the end of the issue because I felt better. There is no way anyone can tell me I am wrong because that was a personal experience and completely shaped how I answered the question. That is why these questions should not have any basis, unless you are specifically using them for an interview to base peoples personalities.

I was talking over the exam with my XO, according to him hear are some of the answers of the manageement questions for what it's worth: 1) give e-day,2) go to spaa for crying PAA, 3) tell the Sgt who didn't get the spot why he didn't get it, and 4) explain to other Sgt how he can improve his eval in the future.
Also on the dye pack question were they looking for the wrong answer I don't remember, cause one of the answers was only write possible tear gas or whatever on the Sec env. Which is wrong, you have to write it on the S/E and the invoice.
