Now you get to speculate if, when, and how many for January.

not trying to be a downer just not optimistic about January because seems like city hall didnt want to do even a December until the job figured something out budget wise last minute

With the amount of bosses leaving the job, they will have to be replaced to a certain degree. I expect a January BMOC. Let's just hope I'm right.

I heard from my borough, there is a January date of 1/28. But that's what they heard from someone else. Unverified.
There was no net gain of SGT's since they promoted 50 LT's also. Makes sense to do another SGT group soon and maybe not LT's

To me, the hiring of the 50 Sgts this class was only and strictly done because the job was so short on Lts. So that hole of 50 Sgts needed to be filled. But that would create a month of no new Sgts and a month of more retirements. I think we may see a class to start the year especially if they want to try and finish this list. Even if its a class of 50. The good thing is BMOCs are much shorter now. So we will have news much quicker then before when they had this mentoring nonsense going on which basically made bmoc 2 months.

Stop looking into this. Your biggest battle isnt vacancies or dept needs, its the BUDGET. So if you want to track something, track a stimulus package giving city money. Everything else doesnt mean much right now

I keep saying this too. I know most of us are Republican (as I am), but a Biden win almost assures us a bailout. Say whatever you want, but its at least something we can be happy about.

the mayor talks a lot of ****, but at the end of the day he needs us, he knows he needs us, and he's going to fund us. He's just not going to publicize it. Lowering crime is one of those things that throwing more cops at works.

I completely agree. Thats one thing that has always rung true. In the end, the mayor can say what he wants but history has proven that when **** hits the fan they always end up funding us, especially when we have a rise in crime.

I believe this class was a placeholder because they desperately need lts. A lot of instructors have vacation this week, so they didnt have the man power to field two tours. My prediction is 100 for January, 50 day tour 50 night tour.
gmen18 said
Dec 20, 2020
while i want to believe that. i dont think they picked numbers based on instructors having vacation. it was picked because of budget. now we need to hope city hall tells the job there is budget money for more promos. its sad we need their approval but that is the reality now

They stopped promoting when they cut the head count and stopped hiring. When did they start promoting again? When they started hiring again. Theres gonna be 900 more recruits over the next 2 months. Theres going to be more promotions but youre not seeing another 142 man class. Get used to 50-60
GangGreenMets said

Yeah that 140 was because we were in dire straights. Itll be a more normal BMOC class from now on.

I heard today that this upcoming class of 50 LTs is the last LT promotion for a little bit (few months, maybe?). Wondering if anybody else heard the same. Maybe it would explain all the questions of not filling any sergeant vacancies with this upcoming group. I dunno. Heard sergeant promos will continue steadily. Looking for confirmation from the credible ones...

They literally promoted 87 Sgts in the last two classes in terms of filling the vacancies. (142+50)-(55+50)=192-105=87. That still leaves us with a lot of sgt vacancies. So, sgt promotions should continue every month unless they want to do something unusual which is a common trend in this Dept. They might go for smaller 50-person bmoc every month.

I heard 50 promos per month for next few months until the summer slowdown. Unverified info, just office chatter.

There are two years left on avg the Dept promotes 400-609 sgt a year so I think list will go 2100 minim to 2400 max just guessing no insight here. The only thing is the city spent tons of money making this list as long as it is so one never knows. If they promote 50 every month thats 600 and they typically stop during the summer.

The list is halfway complete. As long as they do 600 a year they will finish the whole list. Theres about 80-100 people on the list that arent with the dept anymore. Those number will likely rise within the next 2 years os this list.

Call me a Guru and EDP thats fine rumors are the city might have a hiring freeze for about 6 months. They said one more sgt class and no classes until July or August of 21. Take for what you want I know by saying this everyone is going to start attacking me but that came from city hall directly.
Doesnt necessarily effect promotions but most certainly will not help it

Everyone needs to relax thats what a good friend of mine who works at city hall said. There will be major budget cuts coming do you know how much the city is losing everyday with tax revenue. The NYPD in the past years has learned to do more with less, do you think they care about crime etc. they dont.
Lets get it started.
heres hoping to a January 2021 class of 100 !
