Um.. How do these 30 make the cheaters stop?
A very simple solution as someone has posted, make everyone take it on a Sunday or Monday. Or.. Shake up the whole exam with the order of the questions.
Why did they not try this experiment with the Lt or Captain exam, which are much smaller candidate pools to EXPERIMENT with.

under the old system there were 100 questions all of which counted, normally there would be a discussion because our retards can not keep their mouths shut and thus a person taking the exam after everyone else would have the unfair advantage or knowing the exact 25-40 questions ...and probably would be able to figure out the rest. and it doesn't matter which questions cause every question counts.
now when you have 130 but only 100 count the 25-40 questions the person was able to fish out and research might not even be the questions that get scored thus leveling the playing field for those who take the exam on the original date.

I think this is perfect solution to an age old problem cheating!
Everyone always complains about how unfair it is that 10 sabbath observer guys and x amount of military guys cheat the system by taking the exam after everyone else (and usually do very well especially the military guys). These extra 30 questions that don't count for anything and were not marked on the exam as such level the playing field and throw a monkey wrench into the potential cheaters plans.

Not everyone is smart as you wisecop. Some people slow test takers. when I reached question 100 I only had 20 mins left. So now you tell me was it fair to add an aditional 30 questions and not at least have and extra hr? and how come we don't know what counts? I answered the first 100 as if those were the ones that count. I invested time and 7 months of my life when at the time my daughter was 1 months old. This is an integrity issue how come we couldn't know which one didn't count? I came up short 18 questions that I my need to pass if those last 18 counted. how come in the original NOE it was 100 questions and 6Hrs. And when it got amended they didn't mentioned how many questions they were going to include and the time that was alloted? Something needs to be done about It. If not who knows whats going to happen on the 2015 test.

The same thing happened in the LT test, while a bunch of guys were wasting time concerned about the changes the people who really wanted it didn't try to make sense of it. The fact of the matter is that the city faces litigations every test. They are not going to add 30 questions without ensuring they legally can. All you can hope is that you hit 70.

So why every question I saw after 100 were easy and the first 100 were lengthy? humm. out of the 112 that I did I never saw a double question. I bet the bulk of the 30 research questions that were also PG questions are in the first 100.

Wisecop is absolutely correct. I am not a good learner. I need more than 6hrs for a 100 test but I worked hard for this. Once I saw it was 130 questions I didn't leave my chair for six hours. I made up my mind that I couldn't change anything and that DCAS was not going to win. I budgeted my time and finished 130 questions and double checked my answers and transferred my answers in under 6 hours. 6hrs might not have been enough time but if you prepared and wanted it bad enough you would have adjusted to it. If I did it anyone can do it. Trust me, I have a real hard time concentrating but preparation and desire got me through this test. No excuses !

And if there's a few military people that most likely fought for this country in Iraq or Afghanistan can pick up a few points by taking the test late, because they were away from their families in service to this nation, then good for them.

Wrong again. SiSgt in addition I have a graduate degree. I am not the one complaining about the extra 30 questions I actually think they should raise the bar on this job. However many people spent hundreds of dollars and countless hours studying for a test and not prepping for the time.

All one had to do was wait outside and see the hordes of test takers leaving at the very end. My school was insane, it was like the running of the bulls. Many many people left at the end. Even the schools parking lot was still 3/4 full.

They do. The make up tests are in different orders and the answers are mixed up as well. However, this does nothing when you speak to someone and they tell you the actual question.

I don't know if the extra 30 questions were to deter cheaters... The make up exam I assume will have the extra 30 with the same allotted time. If they really wanted to deter cheating for the people taking the make up exam, they should just give a different test for make ups. Problem solved.

We all should know by now nothing is owed to us, and this test is a perfect example of of the department using "no lube"... if you just decided to do the first 100 questions and failed to read the instructions in the front of the test booklet shame on you too, because it said the 30 extra crap questions were all mixed in so you just failed the simplest part of the exam that I guess wasent so simple, which was to pay attention and read carefully...

I finished my Sergeant's test in under 2 hours. I finished my Lieutenant's test in under 3. I definitely think I was in the minority as I was the first person to leave my room both times (except for the one or two that wait there for an hour just for the day off), but it isn't impossible.

I finished my Sgt exam in about 3 hours total and got to review the questions within that time. The 2011 Lt exam the bell rung just a couple of minutes after I finished and I didn't get to review much of anything. If this Sgt exam was similar to any others, 30 extra questions not related at all to the in basket which actually is very time consuming, shouldn't take that long.
What made me take so long with the Lt exam is rereading questions not knowing what they were asking. No one expected judgement/personality questions that would contradict the book or vague math questions that didn't specify what was needed and expected you to form an opinion off of math or reading comprehension that was almost a page per question and needed you to reread it many times to answer one question or an in basket with multiple roll calls and they never tell you who you are.
As bad as you guys got it on Saturday, trust me, I would much rather have that exam than the disgrace that was the 2011 Lt exam...

It adds pressure to the test taker. It allows for a higher failure rate.
if you cant handle the pressure in a classroom how are you gonna handle the pressure as a sgt?
Then wouldn't every Christian on this job want a sabbath observance date? I'd like to know just how many people we are talking about that take the exam on a Sunday.
And if there's a few military people that most likely fought for this country in Iraq or Afghanistan can pick up a few points by taking the test late, because they were away from their families in service to this nation, then good for them.
Again, I am not knocking anybody, but I just don't understand why someone would need 6 hours to do a 100 question exam.
Why not scramble the questions? That would make plenty more sense.

Wrong again. SiSgt in addition I have a graduate degree. I am not the one complaining about the extra 30 questions I actually think they should raise the bar on this job. However many people spent hundreds of dollars and countless hours studying for a test and not prepping for the time.
You must be very proud of ur graduate degree it will come in handy when what ever command ur in runs out of toilet paper. Just because people spent all that money doesnt mean they actually learned something. This isnt a college of a graduate school where 99% of people will pass since they r paying customers. :)

I finished my sgt test in 2 hours. I never understood why you needed 6hours. Then I took this last lt test and it took me nearly the whole 6 hours. I don't know how this sgt test was, but we had numerous questions that were a page long. That and the most f**ked up in basket ever. Maybe this one was similar.
They do. The make up tests are in different orders and the answers are mixed up as well. However, this does nothing when you speak to someone and they tell you the actual question.
What did you guys get for the Inspector general question??????? It was a research question !!! They don't count! We are all suckers!! When will you guys understand this????

SERIOUSLY? How could you possibly finish an Inbasket and another 80 or so questions in two hours? I do not see how that is humanly possible.

Oh i definitely know that we are nothing but # for this dept, but i thought it was only for nypd and PIGS for civilians, but never knew that we are also lab rats for DCAS till this test. we are nothing but ANIMALS according to them :(.
:::Breaking out The Kleenex::: The new generation of "entitled" police officers... The test was as straight-forward as the 2011 exam... 30 extra questions may have caused too much of a panic if that's the case the jobs not for you. We all should know by now nothing is owed to us, and this test is a perfect example of of the department using "no lube"... if you just decided to do the first 100 questions and failed to read the instructions in the front of the test booklet shame on you too, because it said the 30 extra crap questions were all mixed in so you just failed the simplest part of the exam that I guess wasent so simple, which was to pay attention and read carefully...

I finished my Sergeant's test in under 2 hours. I finished my Lieutenant's test in under 3. I definitely think I was in the minority as I was the first person to leave my room both times (except for the one or two that wait there for an hour just for the day off), but it isn't impossible.
What made me take so long with the Lt exam is rereading questions not knowing what they were asking. No one expected judgement/personality questions that would contradict the book or vague math questions that didn't specify what was needed and expected you to form an opinion off of math or reading comprehension that was almost a page per question and needed you to reread it many times to answer one question or an in basket with multiple roll calls and they never tell you who you are.
As bad as you guys got it on Saturday, trust me, I would much rather have that exam than the disgrace that was the 2011 Lt exam...
