Preliminary results from the Sgt exam

All the Scrantons have been scanned and the preliminary results based on the proposed answer key has the pass rate at slightly below 8% of test-takers. Pls. remember that this is before any throw-outs/appeals so we anticipate this pass rate to climb.

I think 11,000 were signed up to take it. I said if I fail this test then I'm never studying for another test again, but considering the short list, I guess I could give it one more shot.

**** that test and everyone who wrote it.

Puts into perspective how deceptively tough this exam was.

Crazy no matter how much time given can't write a fair test. More crazy every test has an error as well.  Less than 8% is not surprising given this test. 8% of how many ? Protest here I come hoping for the best.

Hey Eze, do you know how many people actually sat and took the exam?

Approx 10,685...so i think the list "before throwouts" will be about 858. With throwouts you are looking at a 1,100 to 1,200 person size list. That would be one of the largest sgt list in years.

The 2011 sgt exam list was a little over 1600 names with fewer people taking that one. So this exam seems to be on the fair side. And dont worry the 2011 sgt list did not get cut so even if you are in the 1200 range you should be made.

Eh, that's it for me. i hate how people are saying that this test was straight forward! If the meaning of straight forward is because most the the answers asked "most correct" I wouldn't call this test straight forward. When they wanted answers from the bottom of the barrel

Great information. But the big question is this little less then 8%, is it 8% of the people that signed up for the exam ? Or 8% of just the people who took it ?

If 11,000 people signed up no way in hell 11K took it. If its 8% of 8K who actually took it the numbers are looking small.

Sorry to be Negative but I wouldn't bank on any throw outs. Last Lt test had zero throwouts despite the fact that over 1300 protests were submitted. Questions with answers past the cutoff date weren't even thrown out.

Ok everyone I've spoken to has said not straight forward. A lot of us started studying in Feb and didn't stop like most people did. My question were where were the questions that were musts according to Key and Elite instructors. Iv become a bit a bit of a pessimist based on studying patrol guide for a year and being swindled by a near impossible in basket to understand because they didn't explain fully.
Hoping for 5-7 throw outs and hoping I got a 65.
This was not a test that was straight forward and was not a test for those who have a general understanding of patrol guide. Sgt's who made this exam made it to test knowledge of the inside house mouses who memorize every section and are able to study for 8.5 hours everyday leading upto test.
If this is as small of a passing rate , will they curve it ? I have to say the amount of effort we all put in and the amount of trickery used on this test , I hope the nypd will be happy with all the desk jockeys they promote who have no clue what a level 1 or 2 is and sad that most cops in their squad will know more than them because they have 1 year on Street. Thanks for providing such an unsafe environment for years to come DCAS. Good work and congrats to all that did pass and are actually street cops.

Stop being butthurt. When people say it was "Straight Forward" they are referring to not getting tested on obscure procedures. If you read word for word all of Mikes 5 and 4 star procedures from the actual Patrol guide and not from packets, you would feel it was straight forward as well.

With the exception of the School Crossing Guard and Scaffold question, everything else were commonly question sections. No curveballs.

That being said, no one is saying it was easy, and the choices for each questions were definitely not straightforward. Theres no need to go on a rant about house mouses. i am a street cop and I made every effort I could to study and can only blame myself if I dont pass.

You guys have gotten to become some big crybabies about this test. As NauseousPBBN said, what did you think "straight forward" meant? Did you think you were going to get questions about who conducts Roll Call? Or what the size of a mourning band is? From the prep courses I attended, almost all the procedures which were focused on were tested. Although, that school safety agent question came from left field. And from the courses I went to, the instructors vehemently advised READ THR ADDITIONAL DATA STATEMENTS, THEY ARE FREQUENTLY TESTED. And where did they go? Additional data.

I work a midnight tour and have my own personal daily errands to take care of but I always managed to squeeze in 3-6 hours of studying a day. And when it came down to crunch time, 3 months before the test, all my RDO's were spent in the books. So if you didn't want it bad enough, that's on you. And same as PBBN, if I failed, it's on me for not putting in the work.

I agree with 100 questions and PBBN. It was a fair test and if you take key, they mention about school crossing guard and traffic agents to pay attention . And I totally agree about studying....if you put the time in and study what these schools told you to study then you should have caught up to their tricks.most of the exam was actor based question. I came to this thread for Protest and this forum is not helping out at all.

Approximately 9000 people actually sat for the test out of the 10k+ that filed.

So the number is approximately 10% pass per exam. So seems like a ok number...

So how is everyone feeling after a little time to cool down ? I am feeling better about the possibility of passing. However, just remember that the pass grade is 70. 70 is the magic number for all of us and hopefully 3-4 questions get thrown out. Keeping fingers crossed !

I consulted with the Department Wizard and he has advised me that you are most definitely not on the list.

My apologies, I once heard a folklore that a wise man once studied cop cards and placed himself upon the top of the list. I assumed you were merely a peasant but you are a God amongst men.
