Looks like elite, key, and rising star are not offering stand alone classes. Elite and key are offering the option to take the lieutenant course with an 8 week captains course at the end. Looks like the captains course is being put on the back burner. Not happy about this because I don't want to sit through another lieutenant course of study.

I can't blame you not wanting to sit through another LT exam prep class. I am buying both elite and rising star and doing my own thing. I can't wait to start preparing 8 weeks before the test.

So the key is calling it a 28 week captains class, but 20 weeks of it is the lieutenants course?!? Now they want $840 for study at home?!?
Elite wants those interested in preparing for captain to enroll in their lieutenants class? THE NERVE!!!! F them. There is nooo way I'm parting with my money with either of these 2. Anything they give us will be lieutenants stuff or outdated info. They're not even pretending to give a rats us. We're like a nuisance!

Any Yano is like well, I'm not going to do anything until something is official. What?!? This is guy is the first to grab our money. He always starts classes before any announcements. He's always the first to grab that $$$$ but now it's too early to tell???? But, do sign up for my lieutenants course!

A course that distributes weekly packets geared towards a captain's course, NOT packets preparing me for a LT exam then a 8-12 week Captain course at the end.

I feel going through the 20 week LT course, then having to go back and go over the same procedures but visiting captain duties at the end may be confusing and will be a set back.

I will be satisfied IF Elite gave out packets that included the duties of Captain throughout the 28 week course. I understand and will be okay if Elite only chose to discuss the material for the LT exam in their live course and will dedicate the last 8 weeks strictly geared for captains. But WEEKLY CAPTAIN PACKETS IS CRUCIAL!!!

There has been clarification that the Key will give out weekly Captain duties in their packets, and will put out weekly captain videos. BIG thank you. Let's just hope Elite does the same.

After studying for Captain I learned this:

Captain's courses offer the classes the least amount of net $ but probably are the most comprehensive because of the pure amount of information (Entire PG, AG, LBB, PL, Op's orders, IO, etc). They don't get the same bang for the buck like the other 2 courses. Having said that I took the key in 2013 and it was horrible. I took the key for Sgt/Lt and it was good. The last time around they got super lazy often times forgetting to add the Capt duties because they were recycling Lt packets. Sometimes they left out important Capt duties to try and conserve the amount of information to cram as much in as possible.

Another thing, it seems all these classes like to cram as much on the page as they can and by doing so they often change the wording to fit their shortened criteria. The problem with this is that questions ask VERBATIM exactly as it appears on the PG and when your choosing the MOST CORRECT it throws you off. I realized this about 8 weeks out from Capt exam that it was because I was memorizing the packets and not the PG. After that I just studied the PG and threw the packets out.

Bottom line, you can never go wrong studying the actual PG/AG. By now you should pretty much know most of the guide and how to study I think the classes are not worth the $ for a Captain exam. RS I would purchase for their questions but if I had to study again it would just be the raw materials. Just my opinion but good luck studying.

I'm still confused. Any of the schools offer dedicated Captains class online on weekly basis?

We're offering a dedicated captain course starting end of March/early April (6-7 months before the test). The material will be mailed to you weekly. It will also be posted online through Watchdox.

Eze the material looks great for lt so far. I do have one complaint though that really needs to get fixed to sell me on your digital guide. It seems you get locked out very quickly where elites guide keeps you logged in for over a week. Can or has this been corrected?

Thanks! Yes, we're looking to have Watchdox stay open much longer. We're hoping to get this done soon.

Online video access will be available shortly before the week we're covering ends. Our class schedule for lieutenant is Tues, Wed, Thurs. and Friday; we'll shoot either the Wed or Thurs class and have it posted the evening when it is shot or the very next day.

The lessons will be posted before mailing. So expect it around March for the Captain exam.

the handouts/classes are nonsense. all one really needs is to read the PG/AG as much as possible and do as many questions as possible. that was how i passed my captain exam.

Big city sgt. did you take a class at least for the material? I plan on not attending any classes and doing this on my own. (Home study as I had done with the Sgt and LT EXAM) I am currently reading the Elite guide and waiting on my essential guide.

Hopefully I have your luck

I MO, a class is just a tool. I don't think it really matters which one you take, they all have success stories, I am 2 for 2 with the Key. Bottom line you have to put the time and work in.
We all passed 2 tests if we are in this forum so we all know it takes aot of hard work and studying no matter what class you take. Going to classes keeps me focused and motivated for example, so I don't think home study works for me. Doesn't mean it doesn't work for someone else.
