Maybe this is a stupid question but if you made top pay captain then got promoted to DI do you need to start the steps over again or are those steps only valid if you got promoted before you reached all the steps for captain. Seems like you would take a pay cut if you had to go through the steps again.

Yes but most Captains reach top pay before they make DI

Must captains wait until reaching top pay prior to taking over a command and getting that bump
