Important Promotional Information

My screen name, "Never Again", is because I will Never Again have to  take a NYPD promotional exam.  I am currently on the Captain's list and should be getting promoted soon.  I  came on this job in 1995 and took the Sergeant's exam in 1998.  I scored a 93 and had to wait for my five years to get promoted...yes, I was a 5 year wonder.

I took the 2003 Lieutenant's exam and did well.  I got promoted to Lieutenant in 2004.

I failed the 2006 Captain's Exam but had a lucky Saturday in 2010.

During all this time waiting to get promoted, there were no websites to consult to find out when lists were coming out or when promotions were scheduled.  There was no information available about vacancies or throwouts.  If you were lucky, you would get a helpful PAA at the Promotional Unit who would tell you what list number they were up to.

After taking the 2010 Captian's exam I found Examx and this website.  The information provided by members like No$$AsSgt, which I now know aka: Brat and StopTheInsanity was priceless.  They made this process so much easier.

In the last 3 months, I have been watching this website and have become sick to my stomach.  WHAT HAPPENED?  When I came on this job almost 17 years ago, MOS would say "this job is going down hill".  Now, 17 years later, I have to say, it has hit rock bottom.  WHAT HAPPENED?

We all took these tests to better ourselves, advance our careers and make our families proud.   The way some of you are responding to each other is despicable.  We are all waiting for that moment to better ourselves.  We are all waiting for useful information to know when that time will come.  If you don't have that information, STAY OFF THE AIR...WE DON'T WANT ANYONE TO GET HURT...K.

As a future Captain, I am afraid to say that when I get promoted and I go to my new command as an XO or go to a detail as a Sector Commander, I am going to look around at my new Sergeants and Lieutenants and wonder if they are the ones that were on this website disrespecting others.  I am going to wonder if they deserve my respect or should I just treat them like Rising Stars.  JUST SAYING.................

Any good leader would treat and respect individuals based on their personal interaction with him/her without judging them based on anonymous comments made on a website that is meant to be cathartic in nature. Your last statement regarding how your respect for your subordinates is contingent upon your thoughts of this website is more telling about you as a supervisor than your condescending remarks about the bloggers that you report as being an affront to this Department. Instead of making threatening remarks about how you will treat your subordinates at your new command or at a detail perhaps you should say something more encouraging and uplifting since we all have had and will continue to have less than inspiring experiences working for this Department. I am not trying to berate you nor do I wish to express any disrespect for your opinion, however as someone who is also on this Captains list I prefer to be part of the solution instead of being a part of the problem. As supervisors we should lead by example and hold ourselves to higher standards. Stating that you are unable to discern actual persons from anonymous venting bloggers on a silly website is not consistent with the actions of an effective supervisor. By the way I was a 6, 8 and now 12 year wonder ( I was appointed in 9/00).
