I'm hoping that the next round of retirements coming up in January will push the list along and finish it early 2012. Anyone know how big the January of 92' class was?

How long does it take to establish the new list after the test is taken, for the October Sgt exam, when will that list be established and when should they start hiring off of it????

Nov 2010 was the first class of the 2009sgt test with 65 names. We went 500 names in 10 months, that seems really quick!

I doubt that the department will promote for a few months after all of these back to back classes. I have a feeling that they will start up in November again.

Umm ok. you can't compare the two. You are waiting for a rank that everybody knows takes forever to get made unless you get better then an 85. Unless you are 150 names or less away I dont think you will make it anyways. No offense.

What really sucks is the transition from PO/DET to SGT and such a long wait...its a complete change in duties and responsibilities...In essence a completely different job. Now we studied in 2008 and were geared for the change at the time. 3 years later the flame is flickering and the anxiety from the wait is becoming annoying.

As for you, you already took the leap and transitioned to a supervisory role successfully. Its a little less life altering.

its MUCH less life altering.........jump from cop to boss was quite a change.......rocks your world a little, but you quickly adapt

HAH, I was just PMing you brat about this very topic. Quagmire, I know the wait sucks, I was there, but just try to enjoy this last bit of time as a PO. The next few months after getting made are VERY stressful, it is like taking a new job, it does take a while to adjust. My sgt gave me the same speech, I didnt listen, I was checking this website several times a day just for a new rumor. And I was in a sweet spot with weekends off. I cherish my time as a PO now. I had a great ride, met some great people that I know will be close friends for life and I had a blast. I have since found myself in a nice precinct detail with weekends off again and a good crew of guys that work hard and make me laugh. My girl is very happy to see me smile again, at home. Basically what I am saying is enjoy your last few weeks or months with the friends you made along the way, look around at the morons in your command and appreciate the fact you do not have to answer for their stupidity.

I could imagine. Its a little different with me though...I work in a place where sh*t can hit the fan quickly and promotion would be in doubt. When i say "Sh*t can hit the fan", I dont mean just violence. I mean allegations, someone on your team(squad) messing up...I deal with extremely large quantities of money, weapons, rental autos, travel outside state... and numerous times a week for that matter, almost 50% of the time IAB has to be notified...never goes anywhere but the constant threat of something going wrong is there. Thats why the wait is killing me...I am not crazy about getting my stripes and do enjoy where i work but at the same time dont want to lose this opportunity because of non sense.

That's my feeling as well. Although I not in a unit like urs, I'm still on patrol doing what I have to do. I'm not tucked away and am walking on egg shells from now til promotion.

You aren't the only one my friend. I should be up next wave and still doin B&B everyday, and still expected to get on. When I heard a small class of 40 went in. I was disappointed. But life goes on. Another 30 days won't hurt.....I hope.

Most likely... If there is an October class it will probably start on Oct 3, and finish October 28, for the October 29 LT exam.  Talk about, "by an ants hair".

Quick question..

Im sure this topic has been beaten to death by now...

Is there any way to tell if you are cleared for promotion?---not just credits but all around, like ccrbs, force monitoring, investigations, pending cd's that we dont know about yet, and anything else that can put things to a halt.

I asked the same question. I called uniform prom. because I was a few names away. I was told if I was going to be held up I would know. Don't let your anxiety get the best of you. I hope you make it soon. Good luck to you!

I've known two people who were passed over and had to jump through hoops to find out why (because they didn't go to the board, or an investigation they had no idea about wasn't done with)

You could have an open IAB investigation and not even know about it and that would hold you up. I know people if happened to and they had no idea and had to do major hoop jumping to find out what was going on and why they were passed up.

I thought the same! Lawsuit is the first thing that comes to mind. But I have spoken to others and they said it is true. Some may have a pending IAB investigation that they don't have to disclose. Sounds crazy. This job is something else!

I dont know about that...everyone of those passovers seem to have a personnel order that shows either a suspension or modification...i know of 2 that are passovers and they have a story attached to them...what im trying to get at is short of an iab investigation that is serious, you would more or less be fine.

I was told that they can pass you over 3 times with no explanation and after that they need to give a reason, who knows though.
